    well Mary A. :) what says't thou? ;)

I think the only two universities I am considering for admission are Andrew Jackson and Aspen... Just that I got a reply from Laura Walter (DETC officer) stating that the review for Aspen is scheduled for Jan 8th 2004 to Jan 10th 2004.

I already have been granted admission for AJU and can enroll within 3 months so that's no problem...

The classes at Aspen start Jan 5th so this leaves me in a predicament cuz I know for sure I will be accepted... what I am worried about is what will the DETC decision be regarding re-accreditation of Aspen.

I am more attracted to the program of Aspen University since it offers interactive courses in addition to independant study. But this clash of dates is a bit overwhelming for me since I don't know what to bet on...

I am hence asking any Aspen students or graduates out here to reply back regarding Aspen's repo (Tom Nixon is also encouraged to reply since he was the one who suggested Aspen on another thread)

    Many thanks in advance :)

    PaulC is an Aspen alumnus.
Mary A is the university President.

Aspen has a great reputation (much better than Andrew Jackson), and it's unlikely that it will have accreditation problems.

I wouldn’t worry about Aspen’s accreditation. It is a very well respected institution within DETC circles and its officers and ownership are very active in DETC affairs. Mary Adams, the president of Aspen, is chairperson of DETC’s Research and Educational Subcommittee.

    Thankyou Dave!

Now this really helps a lot!! I had no idea how active Aspen's faculty were in the DETC. This should solve a lot of my problems... Aspen's MBA is such an attractive solution! :)

It looks like you have received your answer! The review was done in 2003, (October 17th) and the commissioners meet in January of 2004 to vote on the schools that were reviewed since the commissioners last met in June of 2003. While no one can say for sure how the commissioners will vote, we did have a favorable review with only a very few minor issues such as using slightly different language to describe our accreditation - and even that was deemed not to be misleading, so I think you can put your concern about our reaccreditation to rest.

On the question of your acceptance, and the rather fast start date for our next term, many students choose to start as online independent students and enroll in the online interactive terms as timing permits. It sometimes means a slight overlap i.e. a student is finishing up an online indepdent course when they start an online interactive one, but that has not been problematic, just usually means some extra work for a week or two while one course is winding down. Some students also enroll in our courses before they have been officially accepted - they are transcripted as independent students rather than degree granting students. So, you can wait until after the commissioners meet and enroll as an independent study student for your first course. And then, enroll as an online interactive student beginning in the second term.

I guess the bottom-line is this - the risk, in my opinion, is quite small, considering that you are also considering AJU. If you did enroll at Aspen and for whatever reason were not accepted, or decided you didn't want to continue, any course you took would be accepted by Andrew Jackson since Andrew Jackson is also DETC accredited.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to check with me, and of course, others on this board!

    Best,
    Mary

    Thankyou Mary,

I am very grateful for your reply. Like I had earlier mentioned, I am only beginning to fathom the features and environment of this forum.

During the course of the day I have also done a lot of digging and finally came to the conclusion that I should in fact apply for admission at Aspen University. Hopefully, I will be given acceptance to pursue an MBA.
