I represent an Australian university which has been approached by Stratford International University to establish a centre in Australia. Can anyone supply information concerning this university and its accreditation?

    doesn't look wonderful

The Stratford International University web page is http://www.sfiu.edu/ .

SFIU lists its "business office" address in Wyoming, a state with less stringent licensing requirements on degree-granting institutions than many others in the US. Here is the address:

SFIU Center and Business Office, Wyoming, USA
    212 9th Street, Suite A
    Evanston, Wyoming
    USA 82930

SFIU is not accredited by a CHEA-recognized accrediting body in the US, assuming the CHEA database at http://www.chea.org/institutions/index.cfm is up-to-date.

It is worth looking over the list of faculty show on the page http://www.sfiu.edu/about.cfm?page=01_07#content .

A number of faculty have PhD's from regionally accredited US schools, but a number also hold degrees from schools that are thought to be of lesser quality such as Columbia Pacific University and Senior University International (which has become Stratford International University).

SFIU lists on its recognition page credentials from the "International States Parliament for Safety and Peace." From other comments on deegreeinfo, that seems not to be a particularly well-respected credential.

Let's do a test: can I find out from the site what math courses are available for a student in an engineering-related program? Looks like the answer is no.

So it seems like it's probably not a wonderful school.

Use the search function at the top of the page to search for both Senior and Stratford. There has to be much comment.

Senior operated from British Columbia, Canada without local degree granting authority. This they got in Wyoming in the United States. Wyoming has little regulation of schools and many local schools have been described as degree mills.

I don't know the quality of their programs, but they are unrecognized in this part of the world.

Thanks to galanga and Dennis Rule. Your comments are very helpful. It looks like we will need to exercise great care.

When i first joined, i was looking for a college that offered an architectural degree to finally finish my studies. You see i am a registered architect have 22 years of experience in the field, and close to 100 credit hours of college work. At this point in my life the degree is not needed, but for me it would be a personal goal that i would like to attain.
I was directed to Thomas Edison University and i have to tell you what a disappointment that was! first i found the people that i talked to were very disorganized, second my license did not even come into play!
I am recently taking classes at Stratford International University to attain a Bachelors with focus on Architectural History, so far so good! I am working with professor R Lane Smith a fellow Architect and Historian so far my experience has been rewarding.

It occurs to me that a useful product for DegreeInfo to offer would be a wallet card that graduates of Stratford and comparable schools can carry, to remind them which U.S. states they must not enter, because the use of their degrees would be a criminal offense.

Aside: one wonders why Stratford International University is called SFIU. Is it really Strat Ford?

The only comparable case I can think of is Columbia Commonwealth University, which calls itself CCWU.

But wait. The very same person is behind both of them. Perhaps he is acronymically challenged.

So how well will an unaccredited Wyoming degree be accepted in Ohio?

    Cheers,

I'm sure every bit as well as it would be accepted in Adelaide.

That is because, in a litigious society, SIU would be too suggestive.:D
