When using an online education does it make any difference to employers in the hiring process if you have an on line degree from Stanford vs Thomas Edison State College since both degrees are earned long distance??? Traderneil

FYI - Many schools do not designate on the degree that it was distance, even though it may have been earned in that way....

Yes, it makes a difference in many instances. A degree friom Stanford (whether online or not) will always be looked upon as more prestigious than a degree from Thomas Edison (or a degree from nearly any other state university for that matter).

Kristie is right in that it is beoming the norm not to indicate whether a degree was earned via distance learning or not. This is as it should be, since a much higher percentage of students are taking DL courses (even if they are pursuing a non-DL degree).

If you were accepted into Stanford's program, it would be an excellent choice. Is Stanford's masters in engineering more prestigious than TESC's? Sure. Is Duke's MBA program more prestigious than U. of Phoenix's? Sure.

The best thing that you can do is find the degree program that most fully meets your needs.
