Hello, I am looking for a list of Open Universities. RA or DETC status only. Is there such a list ? Thanks. Hille
Not sure what you're looking for but Jonnie's Distance Larning Page is about as good as it gets. http://www.geocities.com/liu_jonathan/distance.html
Hi Hille - I'm also uncertain what you're looking for. Here's the source of my confusion. All "Open Universities" of which I am aware are in non-US countries (Open U in England, Tel Aviv Open U, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, etc.) yet you reference US accreditors (RA, DETC). These two groups do not seem to overlap. So, the answer to your question, "Is there such a list?" Yes, here it is: 1) 2) 3) Sorry, I think that's it. Jack
I would interpret an "Open" university as one that has a non-selective admissions policy (i.e. if you have the minimal entrance qualifications and the funds for any program, you are automatically entitled to enroll). Is there a better generic definition?
That definition works fine for me. Un fortunately, I don't know the admissions policy for too many schools. University of London basically works that way, doesn't it? Harvard Extension basically works that way too (although it's not really a DL degree program. I'm sure people know of others. Maybe if Hille's list doesn't currently exist we could create it. Jack
But U. London External Programme requires letters of recommendation. So either it's not "Open" or the letters are merely to scare away casual applicants (who would presumably not go to the extent of asking people for letters).
Hello, I was curious about Jacks' posting on Russian dl and have inquired about their existing programs. I noted the Open University option in that country. This made me consider the existing non advertised programs that could fit the various dl students needs. I am helping several people embark on this journey and always appreciate new information. I own ALL the books and check Lawries page daily for any changes. Thanks for any school you can add. Hille
Considering to headline of the following news article, I just couldn't resist posting the link despite it's semi-irrelevance. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/cms.dll/articleshow?msid=287021 Jack
You can complete your PHD from IGNOU for ~$250.00 (two hundred and fifty) dollars excluding trips and stay at New Delhi.
The last time I checked (which was not recently) you had to be either 1) living in India, or 2) an Indian national living abroad in order to take advantage of this opportunity. If this has changed then it would be an interesting development indeed. Jack
http://www.ksoumysore.com/html/adms/mphil.html This is also one of the state Open universities. You can contact them. It does not specify about the nationality.
