Just to let those who may be gathering info on obtainng a bachelors degree by testing a la BA in 4 weeks website. I spent nearly 2 hours on the phone today with an admissions advisor from COSC. Wonderful experience, answered every question, gave me examples of ways to complete a degree, was meticulous and forthcoming with helpful information. I couldn't ask for better service or more attention to answering my questions with very specific answers. No sales pitch was given me nor any pressures to "sign up NOW" as I have experienced with other DL institutions. I now have the college, if I could only find a DSST testing site near, I'd be all set to go forth. Thank you cmt for your information about this college.

I encourage anyone to call this institution if they want information about completing a degree this way.:D :D :D

That sounds very helpful indeed. Sounds much nicer than the approach Excelsior had of every time I asked a question, they answered "We cannot help you with that until you are enrolled".

I'm glad I could help - that's why we are here!

COSC's service to me so far has been outstanding and a refreshing change from some other schools that I have contacted. COSC answered my lengthy emails promptly and trenchantly without asking for a dime and that is why they got my moola.

I think the fact that COSC is a much smaller school has a lot to do with their service.

    Tips

Three tips for taking exams and COSC:

    1. Use the exam list from their site, not the 2004 catalog as it is not up to date.
    2. COSC requires a slightly higher score on a couple of exams than Excelsior does.
    3. Make sure you take lower level exams prior to intermediate and upper level exams.

For CMT or anyone else who knows. I just got all the written material from COSC. Am I correct in reading that after matriculation you still pay a fee for every test submitted to them to go towards the degree, between 80 and 90 dollars if my memory serves (I've already lent the material to someone at work who's interested in them also)? Would it make sense to take several exams you know you'll need before actually applying so that they are counted in the initial evaluation with the initial fee such as the reccommended CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature? Since I'm also footing the education costs for my son who is a sophmore in college, money is a concern. I'd like to do this degree for under 4000 if possible.

Also, their literature mentions that fees in excess of 200 are qualified for their payment plan but no mention of the payment plan is in the materials. Know anything about this?

    Thanks for your help.

Nice to here COSC is giving out good information. I tried to get some questions answered by TESC and hit a brick wall.

There is not a cost for credits that are applied after your eval.
All the fees to COSC are about $1,000. I payed them all at once.

I took as many CLEP / DANTES exams as I could before enrolling.

    Good luck.
