Last year's informal survey on DL doctoral programs had 6592 views over an 11 month period, so there is obviously some intense interest in this subject. :D

The top doctoral school was Touro University, followed closely by Northcentral University. Nova and Capella trailed closely behind. Union, Argosy and Saybrook did not fare quite as well. And Walden came in a dismal last with one (1) vote. Overall, it was a very enlightening poll. :)

But it's time to retire that old thread. And now that everyone is more up-to-date on the latest doctoral programs, it's time to include another updated poll to see what the viewers prefer. And this one also includes the UoP. :)

Here are the alphabetized doctoral schools of choice:

I'll be interested to see how the UoP fares in this informal poll because there has been so much talk talk talk about it.

    In that order.

Are you sure that all the schools in your list have DL/limited-residency doctorate? Including Cal. State, Dominguez Hill ?

    FYI

Colorado, Indiana and Tex. Tech DO NOT have DL Doctoral programs. Indiana does have a fantastic DL MBA program through their highly-touted Kelly School of Business.

    Re: FYI

I sure hope Colorado State has a DL doctoral program or I have been wasting my time for the last year!

Please see: Colorado State - Industrial Engineering also see Indiana State Consortium PHD and Texas Tech Doc @ a distance and while CSUDH does not have a docotroal program it is still a good school.

Yes these schools have one or two short-residency programs. They are very good schools by the way.

Nobody has suggested otherwise but we are discussing DL doctoral programs in this thread.

I don't put much stock in these polls so I'm not paticularly bothered by the severely limited selection of schools. What I am referring to is the complete exclusion of all non-US schools. There are a number of people who have earned doctoral degrees or are currently enrolled in doctoral degree programs in Canada, Britain, Australia, South Africa and perhaps even other countries. It's even possible that those enrolled in non-US schools outnumber those attending US doctoral programs. I'd start a poll but, as I said...

To poll or not to poll. That is the question.

The computer will only allow a maximum of 10 poll-choices.

Wow, Nova is zipping ahead at breakneck speed. Numero uno so far.

Perhaps, but you chose which ten. You stated yourself that Walden only got one vote last time yet you included then again, excluding others who clearly have more students (at least on this forum). I know that it's essentially meaningless but if you're going to do a poll you might try to make it mean something.

    Ah, I see. :)

Okay Jack, this is for you:
    • "Malcolm Forbes once got lost floating for miles in his famous balloon and finally landed in the middle of a corn field. He saw a man coming toward him and asked, 'Sir, can you tell me where I am?' The man replied, 'Certainly, you are in a basket in a field of corn.' Forbes said, 'You must be a statistician.' The man said, 'That's amazing, how did you know that?' 'Easy' said Forbes, 'your information is concise, precise and absolutely useless!"
    :D

The polls are not scientific and I do not hope that prospective students will base their decisions on these polls. One of the schools that did not fair well in these polls is a good school with a solid reputation (UI&U). Having blabbed a little about the polls, I have to concede that these polls lead me to at least one speculation (or perhaps one conclusion): My speculation is that many alumni and students of the school that usually outpolls all other schools are active participants in this forum. I believe that a new poll will support this speculation. I also wish to state that these polls have nothing to do with the quality of instructions that students receive from these schools.

A poll would probably be more enlightening if it compared doctoral programs in a single carefully defined high demand field.

Comparing the discussion group popularity of a random list of schools tells us little that we can actually use.

It might be helpful if people posted about the programs that they particularly like and gave us some reasons why they like them.

Are you talking about Touro? This is not a speculation, the minute you make a comment about this school you get tons of bites.

Walden scored very bad when in reality there are a good number of faculty members holding a Walden terminal degree compared to other schools.

I quit the NCU PhD program after signing up for their graduate-level statistics course. They issued me a statistics book that is 877 pages long and asked me to answer some questions in the back. They also would not recognize the graduate-level statistics class from the state university, which sort of pissed me off. Subsequently, I left NCU with a bad taste in my mouth.

I might look into Touro at a later date because I haven't read any complaints about it -- only praise.
