To qualify as a University of Phoenix instructor, you must possess a master's or doctoral degree and have at least five years of relevant work experience.

They require you have at least a Master's degree. Very interesting for individual wanting to teach before obtaining their Phd.

Also, instructors who teach a sufficient number of classes annually (5?) qualify for a 30% discount on tution for a UoP doctorate.

UoP pays about $800-1000 per 5-week undergraduate course and about $1100-1300 (or so) for 6-week graduate courses. Instructors conduct one 4-hour workshop each week using course materials provided by UoP. The instructors have flexibility to modify the materials. And they're not burdended with a great deal of lesson development.

The difference in pay comes from having taught a minimum number of courses (it goes up after 5, IIRC), and whether or not the instructor has a doctorate or first professional doctoral degree.

So, you can earn about $3,000 teaching one night per week over the course of an equivalent, traditional 15-week semester.

The term they use is "facilitators," which is to emphasize the learning process. The faculty facilitate students' learning. UoP's model is to spend about two-thirds of class time on activities and one-third on lecturing. Also, the faculty facilitate the group learning processes that occur outside the classroom sessions.

    Trigger,

You are required to be resident of the US. If you are looking for online teaching opportunities for europeans, take a look at kitcampus.com from the University of liverpool.

The 5 years must come after you obtain your MBA. I tried to apply, but they said that the MBA must come first, then 5 years. Interesting that an AACSB school would not see the issue with one, then the other, while an RA would.

4 more years.... hopefully I will be fully on board with the State University by then, though my preference would be an online atmosphere.

    Five years?

    ":Faculty Qualifications
When considering faculty candidates, academic and professional credentials are evaluated to determine whether candidates meets the minimum requirements for faculty appointment. Supporting materials, including transcripts, are reviewed to ensure candidates posses the qualifications to be approved to teach:

A master’s or doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution or international equivalent related to the subject the candidate would teach and earned a minimum of two years prior to appointment. Some degree programs require more specific qualifications.

-Five recent years of work experience related to the subject the candidate would teach.

-Current, full-time employment in field of study.

-Ability to provide effective instruction in the practical professional application of theoretical course content.

-Willingness to utilize the University of Phoenix teaching and learning model."

I don't understand why they would require you to have five years of experience after your graduation. It clearly states two years AFTER graduation. I interpret the "five recent years..." to be inclusive (i.e before and after graduation). It seems they are not being completely honest with you.

Not exactly. It's "5 and 2." At least 5 years of recent experience in the field and at least 2 years since the award of your qualifying degree. So it's one more year, assuming you have the requisite experience.

UoP has an issue with this because they're not just asking you to regurgitate your master's program. They're looking for people with significant experience in the field who can bring that experience into the classroom.
