Greetings all! I'm a newbie so please forgive any gaffes. I'm a detective in Austin, TX. Obtained my undergraduate degree locally through traditional means. I'm interested in obtaining a Master of Science/Arts in Criminal Justice. With family and work, a completely on-line degree sounds like the best option for me. When I retire in 11 years, at the young age of 47, I hope to teach Criminal Justice at local community colleges and private universities. In fact, I am good friends with the department head of a local university and he'd get me in as an adjunct instructor there. All I need is a graduate degree. I searched numerous programs and think New Mexico State University and/or the University of Cincinnati might work for me. They both hold regional accreditation. Does anyone here have any experience with either program? Any suggestions on other schools? Thanks in advance for your assistance!
I am taking Spanish at NMSU, resident, but I have a friend who is in the on-line MCJ program and we discuss it from time to time. My friend is quite impressed. He's about halfway through the coursework.
Here are some graduate CJ programs that are entirely through DL; Boston University Central Missouri State University Concordia University-Saint Paul East Carolina University Florida State University Fort Hays State University Indiana State University Michigan State University Mountain State University New Mexico State University Norwich University Nova Southeastern University Sam Houston State University Tiffin University Troy State University University of Alaska-Fairbanks University of California-Riverside University of Cincinnati University of Louisville University of Massachusetts-Lowell University of Wisconsin-Platteville As far as prestige in the CJ world, I would give the edge to Florida State, Michigan State, and Indiana State, although you can't go wrong with any of them, IMO.
CJ Master's And to this list please add: Concordia University in St. Paul http://web.csp.edu/cj/macj/index.html John
