I am not sure if this subject has been brought up before (I couldn't find anything doing a search.)
BYU offers free online non-credit courses in a few different subjects that might be of interest to some of you who want to understand the LDS faith better or who have an interest in geneology.

And there would be nothing wrong if you were. The only problem I see with taking these courses is that one has to provide one's address. I am sure a knock on one's door will be forthcoming should one sign up for a course. If other denominations had the zeal of evangelism as the LDS and J.W. folks, oh how our churches would be filled! All this said, I have enrolled in a few of these courses.

As a genealogist I can tell you that the LDS folks do not mix genealogy with evangelizing! I have visited many of their family history centers located at their churches throughout the USA and I have never been approached regarding religion during one of my ventures...

I can't promise that you won't get a visit (I'm not LDS either)... but it would appear to be very unlikely to me.

If you elect to take a religion course... I make no predictions as to whom you may find at your front door! :)-})

I am LDS and can tell you that the vast majority of the patrons of LDS family history centers are not members of my church. Nor are they obligated to receive missionaries at their home as a condition to use the LDS Church's genealogy or other resources (e.g. familysearch.org, providentliving.org, etc.)

I know quite a few people who have taken courses from BYU Independent Study and have never been contacted by the LDS Church.

However, since we have over 60,000 missionaries worldwide, I cannot guarantee that one of us sneaky Mormons won't come knocking on your door sometime (even if you never take a class from BYU) :p

Let me say that in no way did my remarks about LDS missionaries coming to the doors of those who signed up for the free courses was meant in a perjorative manner. I have great respect for the Mormons. I stated this based on my own experiences. I have replied to television, radio, and print ads for a free Book of Mormon, The Pearl of Great Price, Doctrine and Covenants, etc. Each time I was visited by missionaries. The talks were always interesting and stimulating. I have had the same experience when requesting materials from the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Seventh-Day Adventists. So, my remarks were merely informational and instructive, that's all. Three of my favorite politicians are Mormons--George, Mitt and Rona Romney.

Aha! There are two Tonys. Immeasurable clarification, but then, the glory of God is intelligence, and I could use a little glory.

OK, I signed up. I have put caulking around all the doors and sealed the electrical outlets except for the ones in the ceiling fans. All the faucets are running as is the bathtub spigot.

Watch out for those Fourth Dimension intruders that come through the walls.
