This really looks good. Any comments or familiarization with this school or degree? http://www.lamp.ac.uk/philosophy/macontents.html
This school has a number of "death-related" Masters degree programs offered through their Dept. of Anthropology. Not only do they look interesting, the price is pretty good too. Jack
I know you didn't intend to be but this strikes me as very funny for some reason. Yes, the prices are excellent and they allow payment plans.
Well, ummm, errr, OK then this should really crack you up. http://www.lamp.ac.uk/anthropology/madeath.htm Jack
I salivate over the various interesting MA programmes that Lampeter has made available via DL. However, I've always considered the overseas tuition rate to be rather high: about 6,500 pounds, or $10,500 US, or 2.5 times the EU rate of 2,750 pounds. I believe this "overseas" tuition rate applies to all MA programmes?
I didn't find this funny. Your original statement "death-related" just gave me a chuckle, that's all. Now, had you said "thanatology-related" I wouldn't have chuckled. Take care. How are your studies at Free State coming along?
Well, I haven't quit and they haven't kicked me out so I guess on that level all is well. Progress on my dissertation is measured in inches, not miles, but my promoter seems satisfied. All things considered, I have no real complaints. Jack
The MA in Ethics of Life and Death sound like a very interesting and fun program. I am just wondering how this degree would advance a career in anyway? What exactly can you do with an MA in Ethics of Life and Death? Bo
Re: Re: M.A.: The Ethics of Life and Death Probably about the only thing one can do with this degree is enhance a ministry or counseling career.
Work at a museum? Archeology (I am guessing here.. maybe a specialist in certain ancient cultures.. They dig up some artifact and you would be able to identify it because it happened to be some religous relic)? Bill
Good. I am glad you like it and are doing well, which is no surprise. If you don't mind, what is your dissertation topic? Thanks.
Re: Re: M.A.: The Ethics of Life and Death It might also serve as a ticket into a PhD program for some people. Jack
While I prefer not to list the title of my dissertation, I don't mind saying that it is "death-related." Jack
Given that most UK universities charge the full economic rate of 9-10,000 pounds for their MA programmes, Lampeter is actually *very* cheap. The "overseas" rate is officially the full economic cost of providing a course over the lifetime of the course. Angela
Not bad, Jack! Perhaps you're writing on the sociological implications of William Cullen Bryant's Thanatopsis and its relationship to grief and loss issues within the context of clinical social work.
Not bad Jimmy, not bad at all. You got the Massachusetts piece and the literature piece and combined it with the death piece...result? William Cullen Bryant. However, I'm doing some original research based on that boring old scientific method, utilizing real research subjects, both quantitative and qualitative research methods, two internal review boards and a boatload of red tape. If you had mentioned WCB a year ago you might have saved me a big headache. But NOOOooo, you had to wait until now to bring it up. Jack
You're a better man than I. I hate quantifying anything. It's too bad most research involves both quantitative and qualitative analyses. But, it would be inadequate research otherwise. Good luck with your dissertation! I mean that very sincerely.
