About four years ago I embarked on a mission to complete my Bachelor's in IT using a DL institution. I was immediately snagged by KWU, and almost shelled out the entire tuition until I did some more research, learned about Dr. Bear and his wonderful book, and wound up in a much, much better place. I graduated today.
Thank you Dr. Bear. Thank you Degree Info. And thanks to all who have taken the time to make this site more enjoyable to read.
I hope all of you stick around for a very long time, because I'm hoping to consult with you again in the very near future.
    :)

Yeah i almost chose Calcoast until the people here talked me out of it. Looks like they have a shot at detc accreditation though so maybe in the future they won't be so bad. Hopefully the tuition will not be raised too much if they succeed.

    Bear's Guide rules also.

Just wondering, which school did you end up deciding upon?

It's a long story, but I ended up at WGU. There was much turmoil at the beginning, but I was blessed with a wonderful mentor. I was finally accepted in the BS-CIS program about two years ago. I was also grandfathered into the old tuition structure, which was a fantastic deal.
All in all, it took about 18 months to complete the program. But, as mentioned in another thread, I was already fairly competent in the subject matter. I have been an IT professional for almost 12 years.

Does WGU offers all the courses to complete the degree ? I think they are expensive than Excelsior ?

First, I would like to thank everyone for the kind replies and encouragements. One of the main reasons I had decided to persue an undergraduate degree was to continue on to a graduate degree. In other words, my decision was based more on personal desire than professional need, but I'm hoping it will help in both areas. ;)
On the subject of WGU, that university collaborates with many other accredited DL academic institutions to offer courses to students lacking experience in some required subject matter. WGU students do not pay to take any courses, regardless of the host institution, because that cost is built into the tuition. WGU's website better explains how this system works. I also believe that for prospective students with quite a bit of experience, or competency, in the subject matter, WGU would prove to be a much less expensive choice than most universities. I don't know enough about Excelsior's tuition fees to provide an objective comparison.
I don't want to sound like a commercial for WGU. Just because WGU worked well for me does not necessarily mean it will be a good fit for you. I encourage all prospective students to do as much reasearch as possible and pick the school that best fits their needs. Just make sure you use DegreeInfo as a starting point. ;)

    Best regards,
    DS
