Here's what's on the North Central Association's plate this year. Several of the schools may be of interest to Degreeinfo:

    http://www.ncahigherlearningcommission.org/resources/visitlists/03-04cycle.html

    Evaluations for Initial Candidacy:

    AZ Stellar International Institute 4/19/04
    IA Emmaus Bible College 2/9/04
IN Trinity College of the Bible & Trinity Theological 11/10/03
OH Good Samaritan College of Nursing and Health Sciences 10/13/03

    Evaluations for Initial Accreditation:

AZ Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences 4/19/04
MN Leech Lake Tribal College 5/3/04
WV American Public University System 10/27/03 WV West Virginia Institute of Technology 11/10/03
WV West Virginia State Community and Technical College 4/18/04

    Evaluations for Continued Accreditation:

    (Many)

I don't have a clue what Stellar International Institute is.

Trinity C&S gets its initial site visit on November 10.

And it looks like American Military University/APUS may be entertaining its final pre-accreditation site visit in four days, on October 27.

This confuses me, because AMU/APUS doesn't seem to be listed as a candidate. Was candidacy waived for some reason? Can that even happen?

My guess is that it's an error, and this actually refers to an initial candidacy site visit.

According to their representatives, APUS hopes to jump past candidacy directly to accreditated status, based largely on their experience as a DETC-accredited school. I got that first-hand when considering a position with them two months ago.

Trinity is only a couple hours from me. I should drive down there and walk around campus on 11/10/03.

    Hi Rich,

Good to see you posting on Degreeinfo. APUS' regional accreditation update page is in agreement with what APUS told you.

"As you can see, the University System is nearing the end of Step 3 and is in the process of preparing for the late-Fall site visit. Following the site visit, the Evaluation Team will make one of three recommendations to the Commission:

*Recommend membership or regional accreditation, based on finding the University System in full compliance with the accreditation criteria.
*Recommend candidacy status, which allows the University System a specified period of time to come into full compliance with the accreditation criteria.
*Recommend denial of the application based on their determination that the University System does not meet all of the General Institutional Requirements. "

As is a 5 June APUS email to students and alumni.

"The Evaluation Team of 4-5 peer evaluators from the region's institutions will review the Self-Study Report, conduct a site visit, and recommend one of the following outcomes to the Commission: grant affiliation, award candidacy status, or deny the application."

One would hope that the evaluation team would strongly "suggest" that they change their name (to almost anything besides APUS). How anyone could view that name as anything other than deceptive is beyond me.
