Has anyone experience in studying civil engineering with Thomson Education Direct? Are they worth the money and will the degree be aknowledged from employers?
My husband is Angolan and we are living in Namibia so chances for him to study here are very little.

Thomson Education Direct is nationally accredited by DETC. A degree from them should help him on the job market. Is he thinking about further education? Has he considered a regionally accredited college?

    Hello from the USA!

While I'm sure "Thomson Education Direct" (www.educationdirect.com) is completely legitimate, it is also almost the very antithesis of prestigious. Similarly, DETC accreditation is perfectly legitimate, but less useful than what is called "Regional Accreditation" (see www.degreeinfo.com/articles.html). In short, a degree from Thomson Education Direct is far better than no degree, but have you exhausted all of your other alternatives yet?

Is there some reason you haven't considered Technikon SA (www.tsa.ac.za)? TSA offers a National Diploma & a B Tech degree in "Engineering: Civil."

    Good luck!

    Richard,

Are you doing the Btech in electronics? Have you started the materials yet? If so, how is it?

    Best Regards,
    Bill

Has anyone seen on Education Direct's website that they claim their high school diploma completion and vocational programs are regionally accredited? They are listed on the Middle States Association of College and Schools Membership Directory for Pennsylvania. They also list their national accreditation from DETC. That would definitely put their coursework as valuable if applying to one of the "Big Three." They would just need to do a thorough check I would think. Besides, anything from Education Direct should be considered because it is ACE-recommended. The transcripts should be good evidence for a portfolio.

    Just my view.
