How legitimate is DeVry university? I've received several bothersome e-mail ads from them, and I'm not sure what to make of the school.

DeVry now is quite legitimate. When they first started advertising in southern California some years ago, their approach was quite trade-schoolish and amateurish, and many folks made fun of them. They've come a long way since then.

They are an RA school. I attended to campus in New Jersey several years ago. I thought it was high quality and high price.

I applied for a teaching job with Devry in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in 1985. At that time, they were conferring "degrees" in the USA, but "diplomas" in Canada because they were not allowed to confer "degrees" there. The requirements seemed to me to be less than for a university degree.

They now award degrees in both countries.

Their ads reminded me of those ads for Locksmithing schools. Apparently they are RA but they do need to hire a better ad service.

Much like U of P the bottom line is well... the bottom line! It is quite possible the ads they use bring in a larger enrollment than a higher quality ad. I place Devry, U of P and a few other schools in what I call the "private very for profit catagory". They are certainly legitimate, but reputation is likely to be amoung the lowest of RA schools.
