I am trying to cost and map the courses that are needed to complete BSCIS program from Excelsior. I think I will satisfy all the core requirements of the program. It will be a little while before I can get the evaluation done. I am not able to get any answers from Excelsior unless I register. So I am trying to work out what credits would I need and take CLEP exams and other courses in the mean time.

I was also looking at TESC but the yearly fees for International students is high and I dont think one can work with them without paying that fees.

I will also get evaluation done from Touro to see how many credits they would give (The cost of Touro program is very high, I doubt I will be able to join that program but I am getting the evaluation done anyway). Is it possible to take CLEP exams and get credits at Touro BSCS program ?

Anyway here are the course requirements of Excelsior for which I think I will be ok. The lacking credits would be Humanities and Sciences

    Core - 24 credits needed

I have these credits and would meet the requirement.

CIS Electives - 21 credits needed

I have MCSE so I will get 12-15 credits here. I am planning to take other CompTIA tests so I think these requirements would be met.

The missing stuff is Natural Science and Humanities. Can anyone help me map these requirements to CLEP exams and other inexpensive courses ? So I can take some courses and exams now. Also what course should I take for English, which is not too hard. I heard that in ECE English exam you get "C" grade. I want to avoid that.

    Thanks.

The tuition at Touro is $225.00 per credit for undergraduate, which isn't all that expensive, especially if you have transfer credits.

    Fronm the Touro website:

    TUI Tuition and Fees

    Bachelor's Level

The tuition is US $225 per semester credit hour for the Bachelor of Science program (200, 300, and 400 level courses).

TUI courses are four semester credits, the cost is US $900 per course.

Thanks for the info. Touro does not give any credits for Microsoft and/or CompTIA certifications when last I checked with them (although I really like TUI BSCS program, very technical and relevant courses).

These at Excelsior comes to about 6-7 (3 credit) courses. If I have to do, say 6 courses at TUI, the cost would be 6 x $900 = $5400.

    no one ?

can anyone help identify which CLEP exams will satisfy Gen Education requirements of Excelsior BSCIS degree. Which CLEP exams should I prepare for and take ? or should I take tests without knowing if it will satisfy requirements or not.

There are a lot of Excelsior grads here. no one has taken CLEP on their own ?

Have you looked at the CLEP table in
    http://www.excelsior.edu/pdf/Student_Guide_and_Assessment_Catalog.pdf
(pages 20-21 according to the document's internal numbering, pages 24-25 according to Adobe Acrobat Reader)?

My advice is that you should enrol at Excelsior sooner rather than later. I tried to plan an Excelsior degree for my wife based on info from Bears' Guide. When we get around to enrolling her, a lot of the info turned out to be out of date or otherwise inapplicable, and getting the degree became more expensive and time-consuming than it need have been.

Thanks... It says in the document that Excelsior will only give Pass/Fail for CLEP exams ? Is that correct ? Did your wife took CLEP and did she only got Pass/Fail for those credits on the transcript ?

Then again I also see scores for A and B in the table ?

It doesn't say pass/fail grades for all CLEP exams, does it? If there are A and B scores listed for a particular exam, I'd expect it to use them.

"As of July 1, 2001, the passing score for all CLEP Examinations is 50. These exams are now delivered by computer. [...] Some exams for which we previously awarded letter grades will use pass/fail grading for now, until CLEP has sufficient data on the new computer-delivered exams to recommend minimum scores for B and A."

My wife hasn't taken any CLEP exams. She has taken GRE, BYU, DANTES, Excelsior College, and TECEP exams.

In most cases it is quite possible to construct and implement your own degree plan before enrollment. Follow the requirements detailed in the relevant Excelsior College catalog, or alternatively, go to BA in 4 Weeks and check out the degree manuals there.

It may suit some to enroll first, then test, but others will benefit from delaying enrollment. The pros and cons of this issue are discussed in "Enroll now or Wait?", in BA in 4 Weeks.

Yes I agree.. In my case I will have to wait. It will take some time before I am able to get and sort out all my transcripts so I can get evaluation done. I will want to test out a few exams first because I know I dont have some of those credits, so why wait.
