Are there any PhD programs out there that allow you to develop your own concentration. I've seen Masters in Liberal Arts programs where you design your own concentration. Is there a PhD or doctorate program out there that is independent and lets you design your own curriculum. I'm sure it would end up just saying PhD in Liberal Arts but I'd like to get a PhD and I really don't see anyting out there that interests me.

The regionally accredited "Union Institute" based in Cincinnati, OH. http://www.tui.edu/prospective/phd/default.asp?strLink=Bb.3 If you click on the above link, you'll be taken to the Union Institute's Phd page. You'll notice in read italics "Creative Freedom" followed by "At Union you create your own program."
