    Hi everybody:

I am looking to earn doctorate in business adiministration from a decent DL institution without spending a fortune. After going through Dr. Bear's guide and reading the discussion forums, I have eliminated several possibilities. Among the ones that I am still thinking about are:

    American University in London
    California Pacific University
    Heed University
    Yorker International University

    These are my current thoughts:

American University in London - They seem decent although Dr. Bears had some questions about them in the past
California Pacific University - Degrees not accepted in Oregon, but I did not find anything bad about them in the forums
Heed University - Although they maybe losing ground, they still seem to have a decent reputation and history
Yorker International University - Dr. Bears has doubts; no info on them in the forums

Would you please give me your opinions on these institutions? I am also open to suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Christian

I have no idea what HEED University's business program may be like but I did once look into their law school. It offers, among other things, a non-Bar J.D., an LL.M. and a J.S.D., all of this while listing a SINGLE law faculty member. Well, they DID list a second person, but he was "In Memorium".

I thought it looked a little thin.

I once used the same mail box drop store as Heed. See earlier threads about them. When I inquired I never got any reply from the school, although a couple of alumni corresponded briefly. My impression is that Nathaniel Willis is dead (can't recall where I read that). It may be that only the school of psychology is still functioning. Friends in Milwaukee cannot find any traces of Heed.
Note--this does not speak to the possible quality of this unA school, but I fear it may possibly be defunct.

Denver: What do you mean with your message?

Agilham: I know that the American University in London is not accredited, but the article did not say that they are bogus either. Do you know if their programs are serious?

Does anybody have any experience with California University of Business and Technology?

    Thank you.

What we are all trying to say, as politely as possible, is that if you have determined that an unaccredited degree will suit your current and future needs, then by all means look at an unaccredited school, but that there are many accredited schools out there that cost not much more and which don't come with any baggage or potential future problems. However, we ourselves would not be happy pursuing a course of study at an unaccredited institution, however noble its aims might be.

    Dear Angela,

I undertand your point and I agree with you. I have a BS, MS, and MBA from top accredited insitutions. I also have a JD from a bar-qualifying long-distance school. I would love to get an accredited degree, but getting it without residency and without spending $20k+ in the US is impossible. The alternative is to get a research degree at a South African, UK or Australian university. I am not extremely interested in getting a doctorate just by writing a lon dissertation.

I would like to get a DBA becuase I am a finance professional and I would like to add more knowledge and credentials to my resume, not because I want to teach at Yale.

I am certainly open to suggestions and I do appreciate your help/comments.

Ah. So nice when one can cease pussy-footing around a subject ;-)

In that case I have two words for you.

    Heriot Watt.

Ask Professor Kennedy about it next time he's around, or have a look through the archives.

In regards to Yorkers, how can one miss with a - “Doctorate with all the studing material and books”?

Note the spelling. I wonder if “studing” is slang for looking at virtual coeds?

I recommend that you request a catalog from California Pacific University and study it to see if their DBA program meets your needs. The entire program is self-paced and the tuition seems reasonable. The course content is substantial and the research component can be application-oriented and not necessarily tied directly into the peer-reviewed research stream.

    Hope it helps...

    Best wishes,

    Dave
