Has anyone found a EngD by DL offered by a UK institution? I am searching thru schools but have yet to find one.
Ian, I too am looking for an EngD program that is DL-based. I am willing to do some residency, but would prefer not to. There seems to be enough DBA programs offered in this format, but no EngD's yet. I find this odd, since they are similar in their practitioner-oriented format. Anybody come across any EngD's?
Good evening! Anglia Polytechnic University offers a professional doctorate in the built environment, and it covers areas ranging from engineering to architecture. It is designated a PrD instead of the EngD that you noted in your message, and it appears the program (or programme) is in its infancy. Information can be found at http://www.isc.anglia.ac.uk/built/doc_home.htm on the web. Good luck in your search! Regards, J. Ayers
Hi, the department of Engineering Systems and Design at Brunel University tlks about PhD and EngD by external study. As far as I know this University is well known in the UK for its engineering department. Check out the guide http://www.brunel.ac.uk/%7Eemstksh/SE_Research_Students_Guide/ Good luck!!
EngD I think it might be prudent to wait a while for professional doctorates (i.e. EngD, DEng) to emerge. It's just a matter of time. Universities are very much like business ventures in many ways. A DL-based EngD would require very little resources from a university and would command a high tuition. Imagine what would happen in Harvard or Oxford started a DL EngD program? It would be a pure cash-cow. Oh yes, the professional doctorates in engineering will emerge just like the DBA's and Ed.D.'s...
Too wide a question Numerous UK universities offer doctorates (EngD) in engineering and have done so for some time. The extent to which they are offered by DL I donlt know. These are the sort of programmes that often require residency (full or part time). However, the real thing you've got to decide on is which elemtn of engineering - e.g. automobile engineering, design engineering, electrical engineering, electronic and manufacturing engineering and so on. I'll be able to assist further if you can narrow it all down! AJJ
Re: Too wide a question My experience is in aerospace engineering. I am also interested in DProf degrees such as that offered by U of Middlesex. Thanks all for your input.
The Warwick EngD is not a DL program. Some elements may be carried out at the workplace, but there are some taught elements. Unless there is another program I am not aware of???
