    Hello,

I recently heard that you can take the GMAT online at home. Has anyone on here done this before? Anybody know where I could find out more about this?

    Thanks

You can't take the GMAT itself at home, it has to be taken at a proctored testing centre, and you have to identify yourself with a valid photo ID.

What you can do is download the GMAT POWERPREP software and a couple of practice GMATs for free from the mba.com website. This allows you to get some practice in using the CAT interface (which is actually pretty much idiot-proof) and take a practice GMAT under timed conditions so that you can work out which areas may need some work before you cough up your dosh for the test.

The POWERPREP software can be found at http://www.mba.com/mba/TaketheGMAT/ToolsToHelpYouPrepare/GMATPrepProducts/PowerprepSoftware.htm

I wouldn't recommend the official GMAT review if you score badly on your practice tests, as I've found it not the best written of the guides. I personally like the Kaplan Guides. Oh, and both Kaplan and Princeton Review have online study aids nowadays as well.

In the mean time we return to our regularly scheduled battle with the GMAT math section. My only consolation is that I can hardly do worse this time around.

I highly recommend spending some time getting used to the new computerized version of the GMAT. As many on this site probably know, the new format pulls questions from a large bank of questions. Each time you answer correctly, it pulls a harder question from the bank. Conversely, a wrong answer gets you an easier problem. Moreover, you HAVE to answer a question before you move on to the next question. If you get stuck, you have to make the decision to spend more time (perhaps more than you can spare) or guess, in order to get the next question.

This is a far cry from the old paper and pencil version, where you could skip around and do the easy ones first, and put a little check mark next to the ones you wanted to revisit etc.

This is a big difference, and so well worth spending some time getting used to.
