    Hello Everyone:

My wife just recently completed her BS with TESC. She is looking for a graduate distance learning degree program in special education. We came across special education programs at Michigan State, University of Michigan at Dearborn and Nova Southeastern. If nay one knows of any other distance learning degree program in special education, please share them with us.

    Many thanks,

Congrats to your wife for completing her degree at TESC...how great it is to make educational goals!

I ran across this program the other evening at the University of Louisville - Master's Degree in Special Education.

Might be something to check out.

I have enrolled in the MDIV program at Columbia University International...

Thanks Steven for the congratulation and information about UOL. We will definitely add it to our consideration list:

    University of Michigan at Dearborn
    Michigan State University
    Nova Southeastern
    University of Louisville

Does anyone know of any other distance learning master degree program in special education?

Congratulations, Steven. I was looking at their site last evening. I noticed a professor with a D.Phil. from Oxford Graduate School and wonder if it's the one in Dayton, TN. Also saw one with a Ph.D. from Bethany Theological Seminary that is obviously the Brethren seminary in Richmond, Indiana. Again, congratulations and I wish you well.

    P.S.

Oops! I may have mispoken. I looked at Columbia International University, not Columbia University International, sorry.

No...it's mistyped...too much Touro University International on the brain, I guess...the school is CIU - Columbia International University.

    Brian,

Thanks for the information on Emporia State University. The hardest thing is to get her (my wife) to take the GRE, which is part of Emporia State’s requirements for acceptance. She leans toward Nova Southeastern because it is a Florida school, not requiring GRE and only taking her a year to complete the program. We just have to come up with $15,000 for its tuitions and books.

Nova's program is good. My wife finished her B.S. from Charter Oak and she is in Nova's Masters in Elem. Education online program. Their online format is very easy to follow and there is good interaction with the students and professors. They use WebCT and it is user friendly.

Thanks Duff. Is your wife taking the one-year master degree program? BTW, how is the weather in Greenville? I just completed my Graduate Certificate at East Carolina University (distance learning) and got another 12 credits to complete my master with ECU. I hope to complete it in three more semesters and be in the Greenville area for the graduation ceremony.

Sorry for the late response. I am working on my Ed.D. and it keeps me busy. Her program is not in a year format but depending on how many credits she takes per term, she could finish in a year. She went to ECU for her teacher certification. It is practically in our back yard. Weather in NC is very different. Some days it can be nice at 85 degrees and the next it can be 65 degrees. Right now we are looking at sunny days around 68. What program are you working on at ECU?

I'm getting my Masters in Elementary Education through University of Phoenix and it is very easy. They don't offer special ed but they do elementary and secondary. I'm getting ready to do my student teaching b/c I'm almost finished with the program and the school system locally has been very receptive to me doing all my observations, practicums etc. with them. They get a lot of people with UOP and it has a good rep with the dept of education in alaska where I live. They were very happy to let me do my student teaching with them. I love the program and I wish they had a doctorate.

Armywife, thanks for the information about University of Phoenix. My wife wants to work with special children and already makes up her mind to attend Nova Southeastern. Duff, my master degree with ECU is in Digital Communication.

    Best regards,

I wish your wife the best. She really will enjoy the program. Their tech. interface is WebCT (much better then Blackboard, IMO) and they have great instructor/student interaction and student/student interaction. Tell her to get comfortable with writing.

Glad ECU worked out for you.

Hi EGROD, I am seriously considering GCU. Can you tell me more about it? How do you like it? Are the courses interesting?

I am almost done with my 1st class at GCU. So far I have found the class very informative. The instuctor is great. They use BLACKBOARD which I have never used before (WEBCT in my prior on-line classes). I don't find it overwhelming as long as I log in everyday and do some work.
My next class starts on March 10th.

Is the class interesting? Are you only taking one class at a time?
I have never done any classes online before, so I'm really quite nervous about doing my whole masters online...

The class is interesting. It is the 1st class so basically it is a Foundation in Special Education. I am taking 1 class at a time and they last about 8 weeks. I should be done by December 2006.

Do you take any notes? Or is it mainly reading/posting online?

Have you had to print anything? I'm only asking because I don't currently have a printer set up to my laptop, so I'm wondering if that's a big deal.

Did you buy your books through GCU or did you get them online?
