I started my first doctoral course at NCU, but have discoverd that I can't get a student loan deferal while attending there, so now I'm vacillating between staying the course(s) at NCU or switching to Touro. I'd read on this forum that NCU was more of an independent study program with little interaction and great flexibility. My course has been anything but! The requirements are demanding and the instructor has been quite difficult to please. This may only be a reflection of the one course. Meanwhile, I'd like to hear opinions from some of you at either school.

My experience with NCU was different. Mentors are easy to work but the course is less demanding. A 9th grader can finish MBA with little efforts. All you need to do is to answer 1~2 questions at the end of the chapter and complete the course. Easiest i have ever studied. I finished 11 assignments last weekend. Its that simple. Do not expect to have any interaction with the faculty and students. Discussion forum at the learners area sucks.

    manjuap,
From reading many of your posts, it seems as that you don't like NCU. Or at least you feel the instruction is low quality. If this is the case why are you continuing with the program?

There are better options for an MBA. Ones I'm sure you'd be happier with.

I have tried at couple of schools.. there will be one or the other issue like high tuition, residency or proctored tests (its not i dont like the tests .. finding a proctor and coordination is what i dont like). Some schools had heavy pre-req's. I am not a resident still in my state and hence have to pay heafty tuition here and i hate "memory retention" tests.

I have been talking to the president of NCU and they are trying their best to make the program more interactive.

The biggest thing NCU misses is "interaction".

My experience in the NCU PhD program was similar. I was disappointed at the lack of interaction, and I expressed that thought at every opportunity.

I have a problem with your statement that a 9th grader can finish the MBA with little effort. When I was in the 9th grade, I was more concerned about puberty than anything else. Most high schoolers at that age do good to string two readable sentences together, let alone do any credible research and write in APA format.

The main problem with schools like NCU, JIU and Cardean is that they are schools that have the pressure of attracting and keeping students at any cost since they don't have goverment subsidy and their only revenue is from students fees. The online degree market is highly saturated and some schools fear that if they raise their level of expectation they might loose students too.

Touro or NCU? Many students feel that Touro is a good school while the feelings of many is that NCU lacks on terms of quality. I personally feel that some of the programs as their PhD in Applied Computer Science is not even at the udergraduate level but it might be the case for only one program and not for the rest of the offerings.

NCU is quite attractive in terms of price and flexibility. If you think about it, I honestly don't think that the average person can tell the difference between both schools. However, some argue that Touro's link with the Touro College of New York is a strong asset since the latest is a traditional university that even has a medical school. But I don't know if this can justify the difference on price since both are relatively new and unknown to the general public.

It all depends on how (not being specific) was your education till 9th grade. If you do well in elementary school.. by 9th grade you should be mature enough to think independently. Bottomline is the quality of education.
For example students in florida are protesting not to take FCAT... because they cannot pass it. Students spend their weekends doing "cool" things instead of studying.

The course I was whining about is Information Research and it just may be that I have no interest in it and took offense when the instructor made mincemeat of my first submission. I don't expect or seek alot of interaction, so I thought NCU would be a good fit, until the Title IV issue came up. Now I read at the Touro site that their PhD programs in Health Science and Education are at capacity. Not only would I have to go through the application process all over again, but may not be able to get in after all the effort-AND I'd have to change my major. Anyone want to loan me 30K with no payment due for a few years???

Where on the website did you read this? Are they referring to the courses for the semester or the program as a whole. I did not realize that they had a limit on the number of students in a particular program.

    It's on their website.
I think the new requirements will be in place starting next session. Good for current students, but bad for applicants.

    1. Possess an earned master's degree from an accredited college or university that includes at least 30 graduate level semester credits.
    2. The student must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.4 or better (on a 4.0 scale) on all work completed during the master's degree.
    3. Prior coursework must include a course in research and/or statistics.
    4. Ph.D. degree progran has currently reached its capacity. TUI is accepting a limited number of new applicants on a competitive basis. Each applicant shall submit a full CV/resume and an essay covering your background, the reasons for pursuing the Ph.D. degree, and the expectations from the Ph.D. degree program
    5. Students who do not have a course in statistics must take the following pre-requisite course prior to starting the PhD program.

    WOW

I wonder if prior to reaching it capacity, they required a resume and essay.

The MBA program does not have these requirements yet.

    Re: WOW

Both resume and essay are new requirements.
When I applied in 2002, all I needed to do was to submit the application and $75. In addition, the required GPA was only 3.2/4.0.
