Hi, I am reevaluating my graduate school choice. As I completed my BS via testing, can I do the same for a grad degree? Excelsior allows a good deal of credits in transfer; just wondering what source I can access for these credits. thanks in advance!
Elsewhere, you wrote: "I have enrolled at Queen Margaret University College in Edinburgh, Scotland. They have the only MBA course in Golf & Country Club Management in the world -- my profession." So what are you considering now -- some other kind of MBA? If so, you must recall that the Heriot-Watt MBA is entirely by exam. Excelsior's only graduate degree is "Master of Arts degree in Liberal Studies", which seems quite a jump for you. Steve Levicoff wrote: "Also remember that, if you are culturally literate and can challenge a degree largely by portfolio, you won't learn a hell of a lot at the bachelor's level (although you will certainly learn how to work the system). So start making plans to find a graduate program where you can actually learn something substantive and have some more fun." http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=5e7856%241sq%40dfw-ixnews11.ix.netcom.com Are you looking to learn something at this point (and if so, what)? Or are you looking for any graduate degree with least effort?
Ouch, that hurts. No, I am not trying to minimize the effort, just to maximize what I already know because I want a degree that is closely related to my field. I feel that rather than take the coursework (of skills I already possess), I should test out or gain exemption. If I wanted a graduate degree in biophysics, I would expect to take the courses. It is my desire to make myself more attractive to potential employers and I am in a field where undergrad degrees are becoming the norm and graduate degrees the exception and so that you will better understand my motivation; the average tenure of a club manager is 2.5 years. I chose Queen Margaret because they met all of these needs (or so I was led to believe) and I want to continue there. At this point, I am looking for options should they continue to go sideways on me.
Since posting this topic, QMUC has responded favorably in the last few days. It seems that I will not gain exemptions, but that they will allow me to write the assessments now. This is a great compromise and actually suggested by me a while back. So, I think I may be back on track again. BTW, other than this confusion, I really have enjoyed the experience with QMUC. I think that because it is such a new program, coupled with some staff turnover, I have had these problems. Hopefully, they can address these issues (so far, so good) and we can move on!
