The College of Education has been providing online programs for a while (and I would know since I hold a Graduate Certificate in HRD and am currently in the EdM program) but they've now expanded to offer the university's first online doctoral program:

New online Ed.D. program offers more career advancement for professionals | College of Education | U of I

    GRE not required:

A previously earned master’s degree from an accredited institution
    A minimum GPA of 3.0
    64 total credit hours
    3 written qualifying exams
    Doctoral dissertation

Looks like total cost of ownership is about $50,000 with tuition and fees altogether, but their costs are very opaque (always a bad sign) so it's hard to be sure.

in another thread we've seen discussion of the fiscal problems in Illinois, especially as they impact the state higher education system. With that in mind I would be very careful about assuming that costs will remain static over the 5-6 year duration of a doctoral program.

Hmm. That's a very good point.

I've heard the same thing. I applied for a faculty job at a uni in Illinois and was told by a friend who'd done his grad work in the Illinois system that I might want to reconsider due to the financial issues in Illinois. Sure enough, a few months later, I got an email saying the position had been cancelled due to budgetary constraints. Evidently the politicians in Illinois spent money like sailors on shore leave and the state is now paying a heavy price.
