I know that many states of alternative certification processes for people who don't have a degree in teaching but are interested. I just wanted to know if there are some states that are easier or harder then others. I'm not tied to anywhere in the states and currently working as an expat abroad and have been playing with the idea of teaching in a public school. I'll be fairly honest and admit I'm not totally committed to this, but more curious then anything.

NJ has an alternative teaching certification route. To get started teaching, you need to take a 24-hour intro to teaching class, pass the praxis exam for the subject or grade area you want to teach, and satisfy some transcript requirements. For subject area, you would need to have 30 credits in the subject. This qualifies you for a Certificate of Eligibility and NJ schools will hire you with that.

The 24-hour class is available at colleges in NJ and online at TESU, which is where I'm taking it. I think it's just offered once a semester. It does require 4 hours of observation in a K-12 classroom.

Why do people always want the easiest route?
