    EDD in Sports Management

Hi, brand new here. I think I've decided on the EDD in Sports Management from United States Sports Academy. Is there anything I should know about them?

What's your goal here? What do you want to be able to do that you can't now but believe you could if you had this degree?

The school is regionally accredited with SACS! Tuition for me is on the high side at $690 a credit x 66 credits. Tuition & Fees - United States Sports Academy

I like the sports medicine management emphasis but decided against it primarily because of the price! However, they do offer certificate programs in a variety of areas for a very reasonable price under their continuing education department.

In particular a certification in Sports Injury Management sounds intriguing to me!

Please tell us what you think of the school and its courses when you get a chance. It certainly looks like an appealing program!

I have a master's degree in counseling and I'll always use that in some shape or form. However, my passion is probably more directed toward sports management type jobs such as being an athletic director, etc.

Will it be held against me that I have not worked in the field, assuming I pursue this degree? Held against me by potential employers, I mean.

Hi, thanks for the reply and the wonderful information. Should I pursue this, I will definitely come give feedback.

Have you worked in other areas of athletics? Or done other kinds of management? If either is so then I'd think you'd be able to make the case for transitioning, especially with such a degree.

Of course. People with experience in any field have some advantage over those who have none. Perhaps instead of pursuing degrees you should be pursuing experience.

It's a Doctorate of Education ! The tracks definitely sound geared towards collegiate athletics (training, management/coaching). I'm sure it has other utilities as well but those are the obvious ones! For example if one is a physical therapist or physician assistant/NP and had a desire to focus on managing sports clinics or team medicine perhaps it would add icing to the cake? Like I said before, the price is roughly $60,000 and I probably wouldn't see a good return on the investment but the program looks outstanding!
