I plan to pursue beyond graduate degree early next year. Any advice on this program? I plan to teach Homeland Security/Criminal Justice.

If you're in Delaware, it's probaby fine. If not, it isn't, since they don't offer this particular program by distance.

I believe they do offer an online option according to the website unless something has changed. Are there any other schools that are comparable since I am in NJ and online may seem to be the only option to balance family, work, school.

Considering doing a doctorate in the discipline (applied or academic) in which you intend to make your mark. If that is homeland security, then look for programs that will allow you to create that identity.

They offer a DBA by distance, not an EdD. Also, what Rich said.

But, it is possible that any doctorate might work if you already have a master's in criminal justice or homeland security. I had a professor with a PhD in Leadership studies, but his master's is military-related. He is tenure track and teaches in the security studies programs at a public university. He told me that the 18 graduate credit hours in the subject is all that matters. However, I would recommend getting a doctorate in something that is at least a little more related to CJ. For example, I've read the profiles of a lot of CJ professors who have PhDs in sociology. In my opinion, I think sociology has more in common with CJ than homeland security, especially if the sociology program focused on criminology.

It's possible, but competition is stiff, especially for full time positions. Rich is right that a doctorate in one's actual field will help more than one in Education.

It does look like they offer the EdD online, but maybe only with an Educational Leadership concentration. It's unclear if it can be done 100% online or in a hybrid format. The OP should contact the school to get clarification on this. If it's a hybrid format and the OP is not too far north in NJ, WilmU is close to the NJ state line. I believe the EdD classes are at the Wilson Graduate Center, which is right off of I-95 just a few miles after you cross the DE Memorial Bridge from NJ.

 Good catch -- I was looking at a different page on their site, one with conflicting information. Sorry for the confusion, yes, I'd call the school to see what the real story is. If their Education school is like their Business school, they'll be friendly and informative.

Thank you All...the program is 100 percent online for the Higher Ed Leadership concentration only. My master's will be in Homeland Security but I have been unsuccessful in finding a reputable online doctorate program that concentrates in Homeland Security of something close. Any advice on schools or programs?

Colorado Technical University has a management program with a concentration in homeland security. I don't know what your criteria are for "reputable." The Valdosta University DPA allows you to create a concentration. You can either take their courses for your concentration or use courses from your master's degree. I believe Walden and Capella have some homeland security or related (public safety/emergency management) concentrations. Northcentral University's DBA has a homeland security concentration.

Remember that emergency management is closely related. Jacksonville State University has an online program in emergency management.

University of Southern Mississippi's International Development program has a concentration in security studies. Security Studies and National/International Security aren't really the same thing as Homeland Security, but those kinds of programs do include courses in terrorism and homeland security.

Thank you everyone for your sight. I am interested in NJ City's D.Sc as well as Jacksonville State's D.Sc. NJCU's tuition is almost double at $739 while Jacksonville's is $439. I am in NJ so the residency would be simple and close but I wanted some input on both the programs and what would ne be a better choice for one looking to teach in higher education. Keep in mind I have 14 years in federal service in various capacities, last 4 years with Homeland Security and medically retiring soon as I look for another career.
