Cheapest distant PhD in Education or related degree without dissertation

Hello All,
I have done a forum search and still am not finding the answers to what I am seeking. Can anyone recommend an affordable PhD program in Ed without a dissertation? Or even one with a dissertation.

I would qualify it further. The point of a PhD is to be able to demonstrate scholarship in your field.

Professional doctorates aren't necessarily focused on producing scholarship. (MD, DDS, DVM, PharmD, etc.). You could make a case that we need more professional doctorates for practitioners, as PhD-style research isn't necessarily suited for all professional opportunities.

But in this case, yes, a dissertation is absolutely needed.

 

I'm going to pile on a bit here. First of all, there are not many DL PhD programs in Education. I'm splitting hairs but I wonder if our OP would consider an EdD program? That might lengthen the list a bit. As you work through the list you may find that one or two of the programs might allow for a "doctoral project" which is slightly different than a dissertation but this is not to say that it's any easier, just different. IMO there is no such thing as a valid doctoral degree without a dissertation/project that has a known, published committee with drafts and rewrites and scrutiny, etc. A 20 page paer or even a 100 page paper is not the same as a dissertation. Hopefully it never will be the same. My final ascerbic comment is that I believe that college is not for everyone and a PhD program is not for everyone either. Just ask these people:

A 20 page paper is nothing. I have written 15 page papers and have invested about 15 hours in such endeavors. A dissertation is a long process and it honestly scares the bejesus out of me. As it should any rational person. But once you realize that a paper of high quality, that significantly advances thought in a discipline, is not a two week project, it all makes sense.
I hope I don't chicken out when writing my dissertation and I hope to draw on the experience of some local Drs of Business Administration for advice and counsel.
But in case I do chicken out, I am getting a CAGS in E-Commerce first.

 

This is one of the true pratitioner Ed.D. programs, rather than a Ph.D. clone (like the majority of the Ed.D. programs).

This is probably the least expensive regionally-accredited doctorate that I have seen, but it is specifically directed to K-12 lschool improvement.

The typical question of something that is cheap, easy, and if possible with an excellent reputation.
You can find some that satisfy the first two (Aspen) but none that they would satisfy all points.


Check the DETC.org site, this is the site that has many Ed doctorates that satisfy your criteria.
