Almost done with my Bachelor's with UMUC and am looking into possible online/partially online MAT programs.

I plan on teaching in the state of Maryland after I graduate.

Does anyone know the quality or respectability of this program in the professional world? What do employers think of this degree, or someone with a BA and MAT from the same school? Does it matter?

    Thanks in advance!!

While I am chair the the education department at UMUC, I also teach one of the MAT courses, and I can assure you that employers don't have concerns about teachers having both degrees from the same university. An interesting note on what employers think: Two MAT students I taught were hired immediately at the schools where they had their internships. The MAT has Maryland state approval and is preparing for national accreditation. For additional information, write to [email protected]. Also, look up MAT on the UMUC website.
    Good Luck!

Welcome, Dr. Pilato, I'm the Director of Online Education at Virginia International University, around the Beltway from you in Fairfax. Any chance UMUC might ever offer an EdD in Educational Technology?

There are many available graduate degree programs in education; personally, I would consider institutions which are NCATE accredited. Although the UMUC MAT and MEd are approved by the Maryland State Department of Education and the Maryland Higher Education Commission— UMUC is not NCATE accredited. This could limit educational personnel mobility (PK-12) outside the State of Maryland (e.g., reciprocity /interstate agreement NASDTEC).
