    Howdy folks!

I know there are PLENTY of MA/MS/MEd/EdS degrees out there which to an administration and supervision endorsment/credential. However, because I already have a MS in Education, I don't need another education degree. (I'll probably go for a doctorate, but that's down the line.) Right now I'm looking for any programs which offer the ability to obtain an admin endorsement by only taking the required classes. For example, though it's not online, George Washington University allows you to take 12 credits of coursework and 6 credits of internship to obtain the endorsement. Anyone know of any similar programs online?

I'd like to eventually go for a doctoral in leadership and policy studies, and though there's no requirement to be an administrator, I think a background in it would definitely help.

    Thanks!
    Matt

I do not know about your state, but some states offer the ability to take an examination to earn your administrative credential. This is how I earned mine. Because I already have one master's degree and am a couple of courses away from a second one, I could not see doing a third one. It was a good option for me.

Note: You really do have to have real knowledge of the profession in order to pass it. The failure rate is rather significant.

Thanks, Tom. Virginia requires candidates to take the SLLA after completing a program. You can't just take the SLLA, pass it, and get licensed, unfortunately.

That's too bad. While it is a challenging exam, it was worth the $450 to see if I could pass it. I'm not sure it exactly saved me money since I don't think I would have done the coursework.

Seemingly similar to Virginia, in Texas the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) requires completing an approved principal educator preparation program (e.g., 6-hours certification coursework) in addition to the Master degree; hold a valid classroom teaching certificate, min. of two years of creditable teaching experience as a classroom teacher prior to being allowed to test for the EC-12 Principal 5-year Standard certification, and be recommended for certification by that program. The EC-12 Superintendent 5-year Standard certification requires holding, at a minimum, a principal certificate and completing an educator preparation program (e.g., more certification coursework /16-hours/internship) before being allowed to test.
