Is $20,000 too much for an Elementary Education MEd?

I'm an EFL teacher and want to transition to Elementary Education, preferably at an International or DoDD school (anywhere). I'm looking at various schools and most estimates come out to about $20,000 for MEds + license, part distance, part residency. I'd have to borrow this money on top of the $8,000 I have remaining on my loans from my unrelated undergraduate degree. Does $20,000 seem like too much?

The tuition is set to increase significantly in the near future.

Yes, I think it's fairly high, but not the highest I have seen. I only paid about $14K for my master's in Ed Tech at National University, but that was in 2003. I just checked at NU and the same thing is now $25K.

The problem is that, as an elementary teacher, you will not be making a ton of money to pay back the loan. That is, if you can even find a job. It's pretty bad out there.

Isn't the market for teachers better at International or DoDD schools abroad?

Yes, it is better, but you typically need two years of experienced as a certified teacher in your home country before you are eligible for the overseas jobs. And those two years are hard to get at the moment. You probably have to go to either extremely rural areas or to very rough inner-city schools if you want any hope of a job right now.
