    Hello,

I'm looking for school, that is similar to AIU's BIT program, fast paced, accelerated ( about 13 month), with Associate degree already, that doesnt costs $27,000.

I am currently seeking a bachelor’s IT, IS program

The program must fit the following criteria:

-one with any Associate degree, gets the first 2 years waived, automaticaly enters into junior
-Accelerated program about a year, not 2

I remeber reading in the threads, that there are cheaper shools, howerver no names.

"AIU is very expensive. there are a lot of inexpensive accredited alternatives. "

Part of what makes your post hard to answer is that you seem to be asking what programs are identical to AIU only cheaper. The answer to that question is likely none.

If, instead, you are looking for programs that are similar, but cheaper there are many. You'll want to utilize the search tool and search for threads containing American International University and also any threads containing the same degree as the one you are seeking. I would also browse the whole It and Computer Degrees forum for additional info.

Realize that 13 months continuous equal 1 2/3 academic years. Most DL programs will let you study straight through.

My personal favorite is the Troy State Univ. CS degree. Their residential requirement is 30 semester credits so it conceivable could be finished in 9 months. They have 5 semester terms per year so if you took a full load every term for 12 months you would have 2 1/3 academic year of credit. That would not be easy! They accept most CLEP and DANTES tests. They do have one unusual requirement that 60 hrs come from a senior university, but they count all CLEP DANTES credit as coming from a senior university.

    well ,

I am a little bias seeing that I know th quaility of a AIU degree first hand but there are a lot of degree programs that will allow you to finish your degree in 18 months but I have not seen any quality programs beside Aiu that willet you finish your degree in less time than that ! (16 months maybe) Anyway here is a short list. hope this helps !

    18 months

1 year maybe depends on how fast you can pass your tests

    regionally accredited

if your not good at test this may not be a good alternative for you

$1,005 dollars for bachelors degree wow!

    p.s

    Some important info:

Kennedy Western is a degree mill. Avoid at all cost. No degree is better than a degree from K-W

Excelsior costs around $2300-4000. Less if you have already earned all the credit and just transfer it in. It is low cost but not $1k.

Are AIU terms 5 weeks? If so how would they fit 14 weeks of work into 5 weeks?

    1. Any online or landbased school you talk to is going to be pushy its the nature of the game they all try to convince you that there the only accredited school on the block. As for expense anything worth something in this world is expensive education exspecially. a quality education is expensive the higher the tier it is the more expensive for the most part ."you get what you pay for " in most cases.

    2. Excelsior is a title IV school and you do have to pay out of pocket but the price is reflects the classes I do believe if you clep out of your gen ed and some your other classes first the payment plan may be a lot cheaper because you dont have to take as many classes(you may want to call the financial aid department to verify). You had also said there program is strict , but Aiu program is extremly strict you have 5 weeks to complete a 15 week class all assignments are due midnight saturday no exceptions In order to keep the sacs accredation it must be !
if you thought aiu was some sort of cake walk because it s only 13 months you are sadly mistaken . Atleast with this type of program you have the ability to study at your own pace,In a accelarated program you dont get that luxary believe me. The tests may be extremly hard but trust learning it all in 5 weeks is harder! see post initial thoughts on aiu!

    3. Actually that is a misprint If you look at the foot note at the end of every post I have submitted my graduation date is posted at the end of my second degree. I will complete my program february of 04 I didnt catch that or I would have changed it myself Even if I didnt I dont remember posting when I started but incidently I did start in january of 2-03 so you are right!

Look at the previous posts I have made concerning AIU I have posted my assignments for beginning programing in the post listed above. I dont believe that you will find a program similar to AIU in time frame as far as 13 months for a lower price at least not till the middle of next year ! Aiu is comming off of a record year as far as graduates and job placement . The employers are looking at Aiu as a quaility instution an it graduates as good employees. I believe other schools are looking at Aiu's success and will begin to build similiar programs to aiu's. but even with the high rate of graduates that Aiu has I still believe the attritcion rate for the school is something like 50% which is good but also goes to show that alot of people though aiu was cake walk got there took a few classes and decided they could handle the work load. The reason I am telling you all this (refering to your second post about excelsior) is to let you if you find a program that you looking for that meets all your criterea and is regionally accredited by sacs or similiar body and they offer a bachelors in 13 month or less and less money it is going to be unbelievbly hard and I can guarentee that 100%. I am not saying that to scare you or stop you from pursuing your degree because I believe everyone should attend college but I am letting you know what you are getting yourself into from personal experience.

    Hope this helped !

    Dave,

Informative post but I see had a couple things I have a questions for you. I was wondering about Kennedy -western are they accredited at all? I also had a question about tuition for excelsior it lists on that the pdf from the school that tuition is only 1008 for a bachelors degree is there hidden added cost they dont show on the pdf http://www.excelsior.edu/pdf/Underg...ayment_Plan.pdf ?

as for aiu How do they teach a 15 week class in five weeks ? that s a easy question excessive work load ! they give 2 or three weeks of instruction per week for 5 weeks straight here is the syllabus for Advanced Programming below. Bascially if you enroll in a accelerated program be prepared to work hard and have not life for at least 13 months guareented !

In this exercise, you will compute the cost of a reservation based on several factors. The figure shows the complete form.

    • Save to your computer and run the executable file named ChO4Ex5.exe. Enter the values shown, and then click the Calculate button. The cost of the reservation appears in the output section of the form. Exit the solution.

    • Create a new solution named YourName_Unit01.sln.

    • Create the control instances on the form as shown in the Figure. Note that the form contains multiple group boxes, DateTime Picker controls, and a NumericUpDown control.

The cost of a hotel room is based on the following rules:

    • The base rate for the room depends on the room type. Standard = 84.50, Deluxe = 104.50, and Suite = 154.50.

    • If the number of guests is greater than 2, a $10.00 charge is imposed on each additional guest per night.

    • An additional rollaway bed costs $5.00 per night.

    • Declare constants as necessary to store the various rates.

    • Using the rules described in the previous list, write the code to calculate the cost of the hotel room and display the output. Format all of the output. Make the Calculate button the accept button.

    • The Clear button should clear all of the output values, set the arrival and checkout date to the current date, and set the room type to standard. Remove the check from the Additional Rollaway Bed check box and, finally, set the default number of guests to 2.

    • Write the code for the Exit button to exit the solution.

Unit 2 - Introduction to Database Processing using ADO.NET

    Reading Assignment:
    Chapter 8 (Ekedahl and Newman)
Assignment Type: Individual Project Due Date: 9/6/2003
Points Possible: 100 Project Duration: 1-1.5 hours
    Deliverable Length: .sln file

In this exercise, you will create a solution that utilizes a menu to locate, add, change, and delete records from a database table. The Figure shows the completed form for the solution at run time.

    • Save to your computer and run the executable file ChO8EX1.exe. For the solution to run, download the database named Factory.mdb, which must reside in the same folder as the executable file. Add a new record, and then enter the input values shown in the Figure. Update the record you just added. Locate that record, and then delete it. Exit the solution.

    • Start VB NET and create a new solution named YourName_Unit02.sln setting the drive designator as necessary.

    • Create the form’s user interface with the necessary labels and text boxes to display the fields from the underlying table.
    • Create a main menu for the form. Create a menu title having a menu item named Exit to exit the solution. On the Edit menu, create menu items to add, edit, and cancel editing of the current record, and to update and delete database records. On the Navigate menu, create menu items to locate the first, previous, next, and last record in the database table.
    • Using the Data tab on the Toolbox, create an instance of the OleDbConnection control, and configure it so that you establish a connection with the database named Chapter.08Data08Factory.mdb, setting the drive designator as necessary.
    • Generate a DataSet for the DataAdapter you just created. Set the DataSet name to dsParts.
    • Write the necessary code to bind the fields in the underlying DataSet to the text boxes that you just created. Perform this task when the form loads.
    • Create the code for the Add, Edit, Update, Cancel, and Delete menu items. So that the user cannot add or delete a record while the current record is being edited, create a sub procedure named EditState to enable and disable menu items as necessary. Enable or disable the text boxes also.
    • Your solution should calculate the gross profit for the current item by subtracting the cost from the sales price. The total inventory at cost is calculated by multiplying the cost by the quantity on hand. You should display these output values whenever tile user locates a different record, or updates a record. I-lint: Create a sub procedure and call that procedure from the navigation menu items.

    Hi Code

I appreciate the informative posts you have made. I am sure they will be helpful to people considering AIU.

Yes there are several diifferent fees a person would be responsible for if they wanted to earn a degree at any of the big three. At Excelsior it would include:

    Application Fee $60
    Enrollment Fee $975 (Bachelors)
Yearly Fee $455 (If enrolled for more than one year)
    Grad. Fee $490 (Bachelors)
Cost of Credits $0 to $10,000 (depending on source and number needed)

    Source:
    http://www.excelsior.edu/pdf/fees_prospective_undergrad.pdf

The least it could be is $1525 if a person had earned all credits previously and graduates in one year. If a person had an AA and needed to earn 60 semester credits via CLEP/DANTES ($60x20=$1200) the least it could be is $2725.

From your post about the ITP420 class it appears you read 5 chapters do 2 programing projects, and post to the discussion board 3x. Is that correct?

Again thanks for your posts and good luck in your program.

    Dave ,

Thanks for the insite! Even at 1500 that is amazing for a fully accredited bachelors degree. From your post I gather that Excelsior is for student that have accumulated a large quantity of credits through the years and have not had enough credits to graduate or someone who already has a B.A or A.A.S and wants to either complete that degree or obtain another one. No one ever explained to me that it was set up like that . I thought they only used test for the classes that you needed as far a degree requirements and took all of you previous credits. I guess this program was designed for the military!

As for you thoughts on aiu you are correct sir 1 - 5 chapters a week a cbt and anywhere from 2 -3 assignments. All due midnight on saturday of every week. Hardwork ! but nothing else I have ever done has ever gave me the since of accomplishment that AIU does as far as school goes!
