Hello, I am currently seeking a master’s program that concentrates on the management aspects of IT and not so much on developing technical skills (although I don’t not mind a couple of advanced hands-on technical classes). Some background information: · 15+ years of IT experience (a.k.a. data processing, software development, information management/systems/services, or whatever you want to call it!) · Graduated from UoPhx with a BS in Information Technology (my overall GPA is over 3.5; I don’t have a GRE score, but I don’t mind taking the test). · Currently working as a software engineer with an unpredictable schedule that requires travel on short notice. The program must fit the following criteria: 1. Master’s degree in IT or related (i.e. CIS, MIS, CS). Would consider MBA with concentration in IT, but frankly I don’t think an MBA fits my career path. 2. Must be from a US RA institution to qualify for employer’s tuition reimbursement. Sorry, no UK, Australia, SA... not even Liberia 3. Must be 100% on-line. Any synchronous components (i.e. classroom, live chats, teleconferencing) or proctored tests would be very difficult to coordinate due to my work schedule & travel. 4. Price range around $300/credit (this pushes Phoenix’s MSCIS and Regis’ MSCIT out of range). I have about $5K available to spend each year and would like to complete the program in 2 or 2 ½ years. Touro’s MSITM is the only program that comes to mind. Are any current or former students hanging around here? If so, what do you think about this program? Thanks!
I am in the MS-ITM program and I am really enjoying it. I travel about 50-75% of the time and the program works very well for me. The instructors are responsive and the work load is not too much (I take 2 class per semester). Good luck.
If you do go with TUI, just realize that it is not a very technical program. It is Information Technology Management. There are several classes that are also part of the MBA program in the MS-ITM program.
Thanks for the comments, Randell. I realize the MSITM at TUI is not very technical and I am OK with that. The MBA with ITM concentration looks interesting, but since my undergraduate degree is not in business I'll need an additional 3 courses.
If you are thinking even further down the road... If you complete the MS-ITM, you do not need any pre-req classes for the PhD in Business at TUI.
