OK, here's a little background about me... I have a degree in Computer Science (from another country) and certificates in Information Technology and System and Network Administration from IBM - ACE. I have about 3 years experience working as a System Administrator and part-time Instructor (again, from my home country).

My question is this: I am planning to get a degree in Network and Internet Security from ECPI College of Technology AND an MIS degree from the University of Maryland - University College (both schools are regionally accredited) at the same time and I would like to know if I am crazy or not. I plan to be a Security Specialist (like a Chief Hacking Officer) or an IT Manager and I would like to know if the programs that I am planning to take is somewhat connected/related to each other and would be helpful in reaching my goal(s). Also, feedback about the two schools (particularly UMUC) will be greatly appreciated.

I am learning a lot from this board and from you guys!

    Thanks in advance.

The plan you have chosen is very similiar to mine. I was wondering why are you pursing another bacholers degree? You many want to check into a master program at Norwich university. They have a program in Information assurance that has apporved by the NSA. Some of the of the top security professionals in the country designed the program. A it is a heavy military college so the information will definite be top notch. this program will give the ability to go into it security or management easiliy. also it is entirely on line . they also include a ticket to vermont in the tuition so you get to walk with your class mates during graduation.they also have one of the lowest attrition rates of all online schools. The cho or cto degree may be better achieved witih a mba with a consentration in ifnromation systems. I believe that instead of going to get another bachelors and a masters two masters would be more respected . But that my 2 cents!!

I am in a simlar situation also. I have worked as Network Admin and System Administrator. I wonder what program (Bachelor/Master) would provide boost in my career. I cant be working as a System Admininstrator all my life and probably would want to move ahead towards Security Specialist but not Management side. I still want to keep my technical skills and dont want to move towards management. Any suggestions ?

    Thanks.
