    Hi,

I am planning to take this exam as part of my BS CIS from Excelsior. I have ordered the study guide ($25) from ICCP for this and planning to study for the exam using that.

Anyone who has taken this exam before, Could you please let me know about your experience and the study method that you used.

    Thanks,
    John

You should double-check with Excelsior to see if the ICCP exams are still accepted for credit.

I found out in April that the American Council on Education (ACE) recommendation of credit for the ICCP exams expired in December 2001. As a result, my advisor at Charter Oak says they (COSC) won't grant credit for any ICCP exams after the expiration date.

When I contacted ICCP in April, they were strangely unaware that the recommendation had expired, although they said they were going to reapply to ACE, but had no time frame for when the re-evaluation might take place.

Here's a link to the ACE Credit Recommendation for ICCP Exams

Thanks for the reply. I was not aware of this. I did speak to my counsellor and I think it is ok.

    ICCP Systems Development exam

Excelsior still accepts ICCP exams for credit.
I passed this exam in 3/03 and earned 3 upper level credits toward my BS-CIS degree at Excelsior along with completing the Systems Analysis & Design requirement. There are good posts about what to study on the Excelsior EPN Discussion board. You should get an EPN account if you don't already have one and browse these messages. Also I have been able to buy study materials used from other students (like the Bird Review courses and Q&A Drills) and re-sell them as soon as I've passed the exams.

I'm currently preparing for the ICCP Systems Programming exam to satisfy the Operating Systems requirement.

    ICCP Systems Development exam

Does the $25 ICCP study guide you ordered contain the same material for the Systems Development exam as the .pdf file which can be downloaded for free by Excelsior students from Excelsior's web site?

The .pdf file contains most of the pages from section 3.9 Systems Development Examination of ICCP's "Official Exam Review Outlines"book . The difference between the .pdf file and the book is that the .pdf file has the Full Subject Outline, the Example Questions and Answer Explanations and is missing the References section (no great loss as in my copy of the book copyright 2000, it looks as though none of the references for the Systems Development exam are later than 1988).

    You are right

It was just waste of money. I was not aware of the free download :)

btw, congrats, I think you are on a roll. I saw you have cleared the systems programming exam. For me, I have started preparing for that and your posts in EPN is helping me.

    Thanks again.

    ICCP exams

Sorry, I should have mentioned this earlier but I reacted impulsively and just responded to your question in my earlier reply.

Thanks for the congrats. At this pace it seems more like crawl to me than a roll ;-). I was glad to get Sys Prog behind me and am happy to know that fellow students are making good use of my postings. Perhaps when I have some free time over the weekend I'll expand what I wrote for Sys Prog at the EPN site. I wrote a few notes immediately after the exam so I could look up a couple of items I wasn't sure about on the exam and haven't had time to follow up.

    Good Book

I wanted to purchase the Bird materials from you, but since you were on vacation I ordered it from Bird pub itself.

So for systems programming, is there any "one" book that I can use (apart from Bird materials) or should i buy all those multiple books that you mentioned in your EPN post ?

I have good experience in IT and have taken the OHIO and ICCP systems development exams so far.

    Thanks in advance,
    John

    ICCP Systems Programming

If required for your degree, I would suggest taking the Database and Commo exams before taking Systems Programming. If not, download the practice tests along with the one for Procedural Programming from the Excelsior web site and use these tests to help you assess your readiness to take the Systems Programming exam. This exam has a few basic questions from each the above areas.

I think the list of books I mentioned at the Excelsior site is adequate to pass the exam if you can do also well on the above proatice exams.

As for buying textbooks I'm willing to sell mine. I just haven't had time to post them at Excelsior's Book Exchange. You can look up my email address by searching Excelsior's Student directory.

Anybody have the URL for the place to dload the ICCP subject study guides from Excelsior? I can't seem to find them. I'm still gaining familiarity with the Exc site since I am newly enrolled.

BTW, I'm doing the B.S. in MIS, which is from the business school, and I need to do 3 ICCPs and about 3 more CLEPs/DANTES and then I'll be done.
