Nothing quite like finally getting your degree conferred. Excelsior conferred my BS CIS last Friday. It was waiting on my door step this afternoon (UPS Next Day Air).
Thanks guys. It was a long time coming. I've got my eyes set on a Master's now (probably start spring '04 due to pending military deployment). I'm looking at Capitol or possibly the computer science degree at Univ of Illinois . I found out about both of these from this Discussion site and am trying to figure out which one would be the best for me. My military job would benefit from either program but neither (program) is required. I guess my motivation is purely selfish. I just want to do it!
Congrats Congrats Pat. I know what an accomplishment this is!!! I'm not too far behind you as I only have 5 more exams to go for my BS-CIS at Excelsior and then want to get in to a DL MS CS program. P.S. If you have the Bird or ICCP-SRV review materials for any of the following I'd be interested in buying them from you: ICCP Systems Programming ICCP Software Engineering ICCP Systems Security
I earned most of my credits through classroom instruction with a few DANTES/CLEPS thrown in here and there. But I can help you out on the study materials for at least one of the ICCP exams. Believe it or not, the ICCP certs are important in my field. I have just started taken the exams. Check your email.
Congratulations and good luck with your deployment. There can be a fine line between IS, IT and CS courses so I'm wondering if you chose CS courses that would be acceptable to a graduate school.
I hope so...I took: IFSM 450 Telecommunications Management IFSM 410 Database Concepts CIS 319 Computers and Information Processing CSS 415 Introduction to Software Engineering CSS 420 Computer Architecture POS 429.1 Programming Concepts (C Language) POS 431.3 Structured Programming Techniques using the C Language CS 140 Operating Systems I: LINUX/UNIX CIS 320 Computer Operating Systems And a whole slew of physics courses. The standard DANTES and CLEP exams: Introduction to Computing Management Information Systems and one ICCP exam: ICCP Microcomputers and Networks My GPA for the last 60 hours or so of courses was nearly a 4.0. Overall it was a 3.49 due to classes I took early in my youth (20+ years ago). I am studying to take the GRE and plan to apply for the 04 term when I come back off deployment.
