    Allen Community College Computer-Related Degrees

ACC in Kansas has several AS and AAS degrees that seem to be fully online. I say "seem to be" because their website isn't very helpful in indicating whether all of their programs or just some are available online only. The cost is excellent and they're RA. Furthermore, they have agreements with other KS schools for transfer credit. Fort Hays has some interesting BS degrees for the future.

Has anyone looked into ACC and any feedback regarding their computer-related degrees?

As you indicated, I did not see a clear, definitive statement that students can complete any of the degrees 100% online. It may still be true but I didn't see it written. If someone were to fall in love with ACC and decide that no other option will do then I'd suggest that this be verified. Otherwise, if it turns out that some courses can not be completed online, it is often possible to take those courses elsewhere and transfer the credits over to ACC . Also, if you thought you might wind up at FHSU eventually then someone might simply just start there and not have to worry about the whole transfer process. FHSU also has one of the lowest costs per credit deals.

Thanks for the response. I plan on taking some time in the upcoming weeks to call and speak with an advisor regarding the online programs since I was already accepted (I think they pretty much accept everyone who applies). Unfortunately, FHSU's tuition for out of state students is over $14K. I don't even live in a contiguous state for the lowered tuition, so my thoughts are to attend ACC and transfer if necessary. I'm mostly trying to move into the Network department here at work, and since I'm internal and know our business, an AAS may be enough to get started there.

FHSU has an online tuition rate that's a lot cheaper.

Yes, you can do Allen completely online. They're a community college so the degrees are 2-year ones. They participate in Phi Theta Kappa (the honor society), which is good for transfer scholarships. Highly recommended. Incredibly easy to work with, and they took ALEKS and CLEP credits. They're more academically rigorous than most jr. colleges and require 64 units for an AS/AA, so be prepared to study. They are LESS expensive than Fort Hays ($125 vs $207), and their tuition *includes* book rental. If I had it to do over again, I would have sent all my students to Allen. Another benefit: there were surprisingly few far-left instructors.

Thank you so much for that information! I started a new job this spring and haven't had the opportunity to get all my materials in, but they seem to be very flexible when speaking with them. At least I've been accepted, now it's just extra paperwork. I definitely like their programs and still trying to determine which track to go within their information systems options. A job opened up in my company for a software specialist that only requires an associates and would give me a pay increase of a minimum of $13,000. Definitely worth going for this degree. I'll be sure to keep my progress posted.

Thanks for posting that. I looked into them and decided to go ahead with Allen Community College. But I'll be sure to let others know if they're interested in Clovis' options.

That's great news Molly! Hard part isn't doing the work, its picking the school lol. Price sometimes ahs very little to do with our school selection. We just mesh well with a certain program sometimes.
