Ahhh... No, at least not in my experience.

Clojure, and the other languages might of of interest, but much of them are meteors, not steady stars.

Give me a good C or Assembler programmer, and I will pay her $100K.

I think you're right. Even the author of that article may agree, if you read between the lines.

With other words: these jobs are well paid, but there are only few of them.
More surprising for me is the difference in compensation between the US and European countries.

Regardless of the language in question one must be careful when comparing salaries on an international spectrum due to the differences in cost of living. For all I know, 42K in France might be much more than 110K in the US in terms of real buying power. (or it might not?)

    The Good Old Days

I remember the days it was sufficient to only know COBOL, where it was used in 85% of companies. Now you need to know a dozen or more programming languages.

I'm glad I'm out of this programmer rat race. :silly:

I know that of course. To be honest, I was only surprised by the numbers for the UK and France. The German number seems right. (I'm located in Germany.)

No, it's less than 110K in the US.

The website brought up by jhp is quite interesting. It's even possible to calculate these things there based on their data (if you choose specific cities). I did that and here are the results:

    1) 42,151$ in Paris are comparible to 66,329.71$ in New York.

    2) 53,763$ in London are comparible to 69,934.89$ in New York.

    3) However, 53,763$ in Berlin are comparible to 115,511.15$ in New York.

Here are the webpages with these results. It's right at the beginning.

    Paris: https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=France&city1=Paris&country2=United+States&city2=New+York%2C+NY&amount=42%2C151.00&displayCurrency=USD

    London: https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country2=United+States&city2=New+York%2C+NY&country1=United+Kingdom&city1=London&amount=53763&displayCurrency=USD

    Berlin: https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=Germany&city1=Berlin&country2=United+States&city2=New+York%2C+NY&amount=53%2C763.00&displayCurrency=USD

It is a tolerable reference site, but I would not put too much weight on the numbers, unless can be backed up some other way.

The best one is software developer, game developer, website developer( in my opinion) if you are talking about IT. You can get salary from 25,000 in UK just after HND level. Most popular is C, C++, C#, I've heard JAVA programmer earns a lot of money.
