I was looking for the organization responsible for administering the "Certified HIPAA Security Specialist (CHSS) certification". I really can not find anything or maybe I just can not believe it an an organization called "HIPAA Acedemy". Does anyone know anything about it?

I understand it is a narrow field but I work in healthcare (IT / biomedical engineering) and was a member of the HIPAA Hi-TECH Committee for a multi-billion dollar international OEM. This is and has been my world!

I recently joined a Healthcare IT solutions company, and the first thing they asked me was to complete a "HIPAA Basics" certification from:
HIPAA Training | HIPAA Basics. Complete Our Basics Training in 45min. Only $20.
After skimming through the materials (online) for an hour, I took the exam online which was about 10 questions in all - I felt that a 7th grader can take a shot at it and pass.

I was told that the certification was essential to work in the Healthcare IT field.

I did a little research, and found out that unlike the accrediting organizations in the academic (and professional) sectors, there is no such body for HIPAA certifications..

Randell did you move forward with the HIPAA Academy cert? I did their CHA about eight years back. It was really cheap at the time and totally online. It helped me stick out from the others within my organization but it was really basic. I've been looking at the CHP and the CHSS recently since my role is going to involve more of the security side of HIPAA and I believe I could use some training. I was also looking at the IU Health IT Certificates. Health Informatics Certificates : School of Informatics and Computing : Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis The issue here is not everything appears to be distance and they are traditional 18 credit college certificates. Still I may just take the INFO B583 Security and Privacy Policies and Regulations for Health Care course by itself since it is offered via distance and looks to cover what I'm interested in.

I never did follow through with this. I took the SME Lean Certification instead. I have a few coworkers that saif they were going to look into this cert but I do not think they did.
