I am currently a year and a half out from completing the B.S. Computer Networking degree with Regis University. I am currently an Air Traffic Controller in the USAF but want to get out and join the IT field. Have any of you had experiences with, have advice, or know the likelihood of obtaining a job with no prior experience, but a degree under my belt.

Thank you all in advance for the advice!

I recommend you start find entry level job such as Help Desk or Technical Support. Then working on your IT certifications, then start your Master degree.

Telecommunication/ Computer Networking: CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, Cisco CCNP, Cisco CCIE, Juno Juniper

Information Security/Assurance: CompTIA Security+, E-Council Ethical Hacker, ISC2 CISSP, ISACA CSA

System Engineering/Administration: Microsoft MCITP, CompTIA Linux+, LPI, Solaris Unix 11, Oracle Database, and etc.

    IT Project Management: CISSP, PMP

To land a successful job in the IT would be 50% experiences, 15% certification, and 35% higher education.

Is this the reason why you're ditching Air Traffic Controlling career path?

    TEKMAN,

Not necessarily, I will put my resume in with the FAA. Air Traffic Control is just something I fell in to, but I think I will have more fulfillment in the IT field. Thanks for your response, it gives me a place to start searching when I get out of the military.

Try looking at Business Continuity Analyst Positions. These days many businesses are concerned about data security problems.

I'm actually in Regis' Computer Networking program as well. How are you liking it?
