I need help from expert in order to decide my career path. I am having 6 yrs. of IT experience which includes working in roles as Developer, Quality lead(SDLC and Agile mode), Supporting application operation. I have worked in Telecom and insurance domain. Now, I am looking to change my role to lead/manager kind of role where I have to manage the project. I am expecting better monetary benefits and new responsibility with role change. I need suggestion from you what kind of certifications will help me achieving those. I heard of certification from PMI - CAPM and PMP. Please suggest what will be better for my case
Comparing CAPM to PMP is kind of like comparing an Associate Degree to a Bachelor Degree. PMP would certainly be better.
Get the PMP. Of course, you have to qualify to take the exam, and that requires education, training, and experience, all in specific detail. Go to PMI - the World for more information. I gots one.
Have you considered the Project+ certification as a place to start. I had some experiences, read a book and passed on the first try. I think of it as a "PMP Lite" - Project management certification, CompTIA Project+ certification
If you have the experience, education and the 35 contact hours then I would skip CAPM and go for the PMP.
