    Hey Guys,

I am not sure if I should have hijacked another thread or start my own, so I went with the safer option :)

I just got my Bachelor's degree from World College, and was thinking of getting my Masters degree now.

I was considering Liverpool or Open university so far, but my main concern is that I am not sure whether I should do the MBA or the Msc. in IT (or IS) Management.

http://www.liverpool-degrees.com/Programmes/InformationTechnology/MSc% 20in%20Information%20Systems%20Management/Programme%20Structure.aspx<--- this link is for the course structure of Msc. in IT Management

and Online MBA - Masters in Business Administration Program - Distance Learning <-- this link is for the MBA course structure.

My main concern is that I am in a technical field of work, so to move to management, I need to build a bridge, I feel that the Msc. in ITM will build it for me... but will it take me as far as the MBA would?

on the other hand, would the MBA be even relevant at the moment to my career path?

My ambition in 10 to 15 years is to reach executive positions maybe (if I was lucky!) like CIO or CITO , I am not sure which is the "guaranteed ticket" for that..... online I check for their profiles and get that some have an MBA others have the Msc. in IT Management...

I've pondered this myself. An undergraduate degree in science or engineering coupled with industry experience and an MBA is a fairly potent combination. The MBA route is more appealing if you already have a technical background, if not, then a technology management program may be a better fit.

So with the 10 years of IT experience that I currently have... after the BSc being acheived, the MBA is the next logical step...right?

I concur... as you already have a technical background you would be better off pursuing an MBA to achieve your goals.

Babson College has an accelerated MBA program and also has distance learning options. You should consider them as well.

Hi there, I am recent graduate, having completed a BSc in IT..right now I am working in the IT support of a perfume and luxury goods manufacturer. I plan to do masters but I have the same concern, as in, should I go for an MSc in IT or an MBA IT? I know i need to have atleast 2 years of experience in order to do an MBA but I need to decide now, so that if MSc seems to be the better option I can start with it right away.

Can any one tell me which is a better option and in what way?

I have the same concern, but my case is different, as in, I am a recent graduate and have been working for almost 3 months now in the IT Support of a perfume and luxury goods manufacturer.

Can anyone tell me which among MSc IT and MBA IT is a better option and in what way?

An MBA is the route you will see alot of people take when they have several years of experience in a particular field (Finance, Marketing, SCM, Accounting, Info Mgmt, etc) and want to move into a front-line, mid-level, or executive management role. An MBA can be a general MBA program with no specialization or one with a concentration.

An MSc in Information Technology would be geared solely to the IT sector and what it prepares you for depends on the curriculum the program entails. Some IT graduate degrees are more technical in nature while others focus more on IT management both potentially with or without a specialization: Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, Network Management, Cybersecurity, etc.

An MBA prepares you to be a manager and understand the business aspects of your chosen field. An MSc in IT prepares you to have a deeper level of knowledge in IT.

So there is no "better" option; they are just different. It really depends on where you are in your career and what path you want to take.

    Hope this information helps.
