I was hoping to get some of your opinions on this. I currently have a bachelors in a non computer/math field with very limited computer experience. I do want to pursue a computer science degrees just not sure of I should go the post Bach or masters route.

I would only need two pre reqs(2 courses of C++) for the national university masters though I am worried that with my very limited experience I would fall behind very easily. But with the two pre reqs I would assume that it would be enough to handle the other courses or else they would require more pre reqs. Right?

Any other folks ever been in this kind of situation?

I know how you feel. I've always enjoyed putting website together and have the urge to complete a grad cert or degree in web development. I'm currently taking a web develpment class at FHSU to feel things out. After that, who know what I will do.

I'm interested to hear what other people think about this, but personally, I'd prefer a second Bachelors in CS at Oregon State over a Masters at National University.

This is a tough one. Do you have any IT work experience or IT certifications? If yes, then I say go for the Masters. It is generally better to keep moving forward and upward. A formal certificate program from a University might serve you just as well so no need to race off to a huge commitment. You could also get one from a leading "name brand" as well.

If you have no experience at all then the BS might be good. Oregon State certainly wins hands down the recognition factor over National University but since you have a Bachelors degree already I am bit torn on recommending doing another one.

Hmmm. IT is so much more of a practical field than many others out there. I know of plenty of people without any degrees (not even an Associate degree) doing very well in certain areas (UIX, Security, etc) and even more with non-IT Bachelors and Masters doing very well too.

At the moment I don't have any experience though I am in the process of studying for the A+ and hoping to get a help desk job in my company.

The bachelors at OSU would be cheaper by about 7k as well.

Here is the curriculum for National University: National University • Master of Science in Computer Science

Would I run into some problems with these courses by just only knowing C++ from the two pre-reqs? I would hate to start the program and perform horrible in these upper division classes. Each class is only about a month long as well so very fast paced.

    Why is that?

    I'm with you.

I just like the idea of having a CS degree from Oregon State.

I'd say Oregon State has more name recognition.

Was that post 10,000? Ring the bell. Congrats. And in it you referenced the Beavers (Oregon State Univ that is, not that goody two shoes little brother of Wally).

A lot of it's subjective, but Oregon State has a better reputation, better name recognition and a better alumni network. The curriculum at Oregon State looks better than at National, and I'm guessing you'd end up learning more there even though it's an undergrad program.

This is just one data point, but if I were interviewing two candidates, one with a BS in CS from Oregon State and one with a Masters in CS from National University, I'd have higher expectations for the candidate from Oregon State.

I hate to disappoint but the 10,000th post came on the Ted Heiks Roast Thread.

Well, cool nonetheless. The counter must not update but once daily. I swear I looked around after posting that and many of your other posts (like in the roast.... mmmm..... roast -- Homer Simpson moment) had 10,000.
