Hi, I belong to an IT filed and looking for master degree but quit confuse on choosing between MBA in IT or MCA. Can you please suggest me the right difference between both and what would be the best option ?
For management degrees, the more prestigious the university is, the better. I see employers looking for MBA (general or IT) frequently.
MBA-IT have more advantage than MCA because it covers management skills coupled with IT knowledge. It offers wider perspective and leads to enhanced managerial skills. And of course the salary of a MBA-IT is higher than MCA..
AFAIK - MBA (IT) is less technical than MCA. So, MCA is the right track if you want to stay on the technical side of IT, and MBA (IT) is good if you (eventually) want to enter the management ranks.
The answer for me was based on three things: 1. I was going to need a MBA to compete globally anyway. 2. The MCA was $7500 bucks to apply 3. The MCM is a pre-req and that's $18,500 to train There's no guarantee that successful completion of the training program will get you past the lab exam and no knowledge of who will be on your committee during your board exam for the MCA. Program isn't a joke. So if you're going to be a consultant and want to go through re-certs every three years, I'd say MCA if you can bring down $150k annually. Otherwise do the MBA. I may still do the MCM and MCA eventually, but Red Hat and Cisco are hotter right now. ITJD
That is right.. if you want to stay in technical then choose MCA... but if you are planning to have managerial.. then MBA
Guys thanks for suggestion but there is something in my mind I totally belong to IT fields and my all colleagues also belong to B tech or MCA fields. If I would go with MBA in IT which semester will be better for IT fields or somewhere I would have to study only for MBA degree
Your recent post is more confusing than the original, but let me try to answer anyway: Then go for it....why a second thought? I did my bachelor's in engineering (not IT) - and right from my 2nd year of college, I had a feeling I am for IT. But in the country where I studied, it's almost impossible to change a major. So, I completed my degree - and it took me another seven years AFTER MY DEGREE to enter into IT. Well, I am in IT now for the last 15 years, and I am pursuing my dream. You'll pursue your own career as per your own goals and ambitions. You should not be driven by your colleagues. Which semester better for IT fields....I did not get this. What do you mean by that? do you mean the concentration/major in MBA? in USA here, the most common options are like IT Management and Project Management. Some schools might have a General Management or MBA in Applied Computer Science etc. Again it all boils down to what you want to do after your MBA. If you want to stay technical, choose a school that offers a heavy technical concentration or better yet, do an MCA or MS in IT. If you want to enter into management, choose Project Management(targeted and specific), IT Management/General Management for generic paths to management positions.
