Hi all. I am currently a Senior in high school and I am going to college next year. I have two schools i need to compare.
    1. Cal State University Fullerton
    2. St. Johns University (Queens Campus)

For Fullerton, I was accepted for the Pre-Business (BA) program where as for St. Johns I was accepted for a major in information technology (BS)

I just want to know which school is generally better for studying IT Business and what is he difference between a BS major and a BA major. Which would be better for me?
    Thanks.

Hi Kevin - Just to be sure, you understand that this is a distance learning discussion forum, right? Are the programs you've identified distance learning programs? I ask because while I know that St. Johns has some DL programs, I don't think they have any IT DL programs. So, if I'm right about this then you're asking a general college question, not a DL question.

The first thing I have to say is that you've narrowed down your choices to two specific schools and I have no freaking idea how you came up with these choices. A state school an hour from your home and a religious school 3000 miles away. Both offering different degrees. You must understand that there are a thousand schools that offer these degrees, RIGHT? Why did you choose these two specific schools? I'm guessing that you don't have a really good answer.

You want an IT/Business degree. You can get that close to home. If you want to be a successful business professional then you may as well start now... why spend all that extra money to go to NY if it's not necessary? You may say, "It's not my money so who cares?" but that kind of thinking will not serve you well in the business community post-graduation.

Like the previous poster said, this is a distance education forum; however, I'll shed some light on your questions. First and foremost, I think you should consider the costs of the two respective programs. Secondly, you should look at the curriculum requirements of each degree and see which one interests you the most.

I am located in California and I think an undergraduate degree from CSU Fullerton will serve you well. First, it is most definitely much cheaper than St. Johns and the cost of living is probably cheaper as well. Secondly, the CSU system is a great system of schools.

However, to answer your question of which program would be best for you - you really need to answer that question yourself. Look at the curriculum of each program, pay a visit and tour each campus to get a feel for the environment and culture, talk to guidance counselors at teach campus and compare the costs. It is really difficult to say one over the other without knowing more about you.

In regards to your question about a BA versus a BS, just Google "BA versus BS" and you can read the results. A BA degree is generally a liberal arts degree which usually requires more general educations classes for a more "well-rounded" education, while a BS degree is more geared to science and mathematic degrees, usually require less general education courses but more math and science courses.

Best of luck with and congrats on getting accepting in those two programs!

thanks for the answers! And i narrowed it down to these schools because the other schools I wanted to go to did not offer me admission. That being UC Irvine. I have also received acceptance from CSUSF but from the research I have been doing, Fullerton is a very reputable business school with a great program. As for money, Its not that I dont care about it, I have put much thought into this, St. Johns has offered to me a great amount of scholarships and a financial aid. I'm just looking more into majors and just wanted some feedback from others. Dont get me wrong, I care greatly about money, just at this point in time, I am mostly concerned about school curriculum and school setting. Just wanted feedback. Thanks for the help.

    Kevinmach,

I don't think it is matter with the curriculum, the matter whether you can an earned degree is marketable. I would recommend to stay with the University of California system. St. John's gives you scholarship and financial aid, it does not mean no cost to you. The time for 4 years at the school, it considers money as well.

But good luck with your final decision.
