It is, but the name of the program to me sounds just a little limiting. If all you want to do is manage networks, then great-- go past that, and you'd almost have to get another diploma.

They just started offering it this month, but it's been in the works at least since last summer.

I think it's a good step forward for WGU in terms of program design, though. It's OK to have programs built to some degree around certifications, but to demonstrate academic depth they should offer some that are built around papers and other competency assessments as well.

It doesn't actually have any certs as part of the program. It also has a lot of management, tech writing, and other elements.

Here are the competency units taken from this page MS IT Network Management Course of Study

So there really are only 6/35 CUs for networking. ITM degrees typically have one or two networking courses so this seems pretty normal to me.

    SJT2 Advanced Networking Technology 3
    BFC2 Network Security Challenges 1
TGT2 Applications in Network Security Challenges 2

    JFT2 Organizational Management 2
LYT2 Current and Emerging Technology 3
TFT2 Cyberlaw, Regulations, and Compliance 3
    JIT2 Risk Management 2
LZT2 Power, Influence, and Leadership 3
    SJT2 Advanced Networking Technology 3
    BFC2 Network Security Challenges 1
TGT2 Applications in Network Security Challenges 2
    MCT2 Technical Writing 3
FXT2 Disaster Recovery Planning, Prevention and Response 2
    MBT2 Technological Globalization 3
    MAT2 Information Technology Management 3
MDT2 MS Information Technology Capstone Written Project 3
MNT2 MS Information Technology Capstone Oral Defense 2

Well nobody is going to make you a manager because you have a masters degree. It takes experience to be promoted to manager. Some work for 20 years and never become managers. Others are promoted within a few years and have just a bachelors degree. I have never had a manager with a masters degree. I have an MBA and am working on a PhD and I am not a manager.
