Hi, I'm interested in getting some information on this program. If anyone is in this program or has done it?

    Whats the workload like?

Would you be willing to to show me a few syllabi from your courses?

I've seen a couple of threads started on this, one in on I think it was 8-31-2011 but no follow up was done by the user.

    ------------------

My primary interest in attaining a Ph.d in IT is

    1. I like the subject

    2. I would like to make myself more competitive with an advanced degree

I'm also looking at Capella because my State University just cut its IT program.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer these questions and provide me information on this program.

    1. You don't need to be in a $50,000 program to learn more about IT.

    2. Usually, the only thing for which a doctorate makes you more competitive is teaching at the higher education level. Also, to some extent, staff positions at universities, and maaaybe consulting/expert witness gigs.

I'm not saying don't do it, but I am suggesting you make damn sure you're positive that such a monumental and expensive undertaking will truly be the best way to reach your goals.

I have. But unfortunately I do not have a Masters of Science in Information Systems. So I would have to do the additional 27 semester hours of masters level of information systems courses.

From the wording it seems that even if you do have a MSIS, it may not even be waived.

    Its still a possibility though.

I've actually have thought about it, long and hard, especially the price. Do I need this? Probably not. But I think if I do it and get it, I will have more oppurtunities.
Such as the examples you listed, teaching and consulting. I understand by getting a Ph.d at Capella any teaching would most likely be restricted to an Online Adjunct Faculty position.

Thank you both for the responses.

I replied back to you via email. Capella University's program is not worth to invest for academic purpose; however, it helps for you Governmental promotion or business practices (Consulting). And also, if you can hack 3 courses per term, then you save bunch of money because Capella charges flat rate whether 1, 2, or 3 courses. With our professional, family life does not fit to hack 3 courses at the time unless you have to sleep with your eyes open.

I guess my other post is still awaiting mod approval.

    Thank you for the email.

If I go to Capella, I'll probably take 3 courses per term.

I think it will give me options whether its consulting or civil service.

Thank you everyone for the replies. All of them have been very helpful.

It's worth noting that a PhD course can be a lot more time intensive than a master's level course needs to be. I'd be very careful making any assumption that you're going to be able to hack three courses a semester with any full time position more intense than working food court.

Power to you if you can do it.
