Well, I have requested temporary in-active Ph.D in Information Technology at Capella University. Right now, I am applying for Ph.D in Engineering Management at George Washington University (3-year cohort program in Ashburn, Virginia). I am crossing my fingers for the decision, the program will start in March 2012 - May 2015. The second program I plan to apply is Ph.D in Computer Science at Nova Southeastern University, which starts Fall 2012. I am trying to eliminate Nova Southeastern University because residency requires once per semester, even though student takes only 1 class. I'll return back to Capella University if I don't get accept to other two schools. I also intent to take GRE exam and apply for Ph.D in Telecommunications at University of Colorado at Boulder as I plan to move to Denver in couple years. By the way, I still take Columbia University's Doctor of Engineering Science in consideration.
Good luck. Nova is actually on my list as well. I am in FL so it is a natural choice for me since I can drive 3 hrs to the residencies and party in Ft Lauderdale at night BTW, what does this mean: I have requested temporary in-active Ph.D in Information Technology at Capella University
Thanks all! They have received my application, resume, and unofficial transcripts. They are waiting for official transcripts to make final decision.
What happened there with the Columbia's Doctor of Engineering Science? Thought you were quite close to deciding for that option?
Woho, Well Columbia University's Doctor of Engineering Science has some obstacle that I might not interested. The most important one is students not directly to the program instead applying for non-degree or Professional Degree status. The students must develop a relationship with a Professor, who is willing to mentor for Doctorate research. Well, you cannot make a good relationship with a professor if distance learning. Who knows on the way, if you might ends not be accepting into the program. Then thank you for spending $50,000 for 10 courses. Other issues are higher tuition and Professional Doctorate vs Academia Doctorate; however, with the ivy school...these issues can be even out.
I just received a letter from George Washington University's denial admission for Ph.D in Engineering Management. The reason for being is unknown, but it indicates more qualified candidate than me. Anyway, just take two semesters off to fresh my programming skills. And also studying for CCNP as well as CISSP. Aiming for Nova Southeastern University Ph.D in Computer Science, as I want to lean forward programming to make a different in this world. My current certs: CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, CEHv7, MCP, MCSA, MCSE, MCITP Enterprise 2008, MCITP Messaging 2010, CCNA, CCNA voice, CCNA Security, CCSP, and ITILv3. Next: CCNP, CISSP, PMP, and possible CCIE.
All the best with your plans. NOVA is a good school. I have been to their Library many times in the past, one of the best in Florida. Good luck with CISSP, PMP and CCIE.
Sorry to here that, man. If it is any consolation, I know several people, including a relative, who were able to secure tenure track positions after getting their doctorates from Nova. I'm sure you were in a rush when you typed this and made a few typos, I didn't quite understand it. What were you trying to say?
Most likely: Aiming for Nova Southeastern University Ph.D in Computer Science, as I want to lean toward programming to make a difference in this world....
Thanks, that makes sense. I never even considered that forward = toward, but with only one letter difference, you are probably correct.
So what's your next plan, TEKMAN? Nova? Johnson? I think Nova is a good option to pursue, especially, if you can get into their PhD in CS. Feel free to pass on your free military tuition, if you don't intend to use 'em (hehehe...). Anyway, best of luck, next time.
Well, I am also looking at Regent University's Ph.D in Organizational Leadership. I am going to apply it next since the deadline is March for summer 2012. I am only fear about Nova because of its residency, 2 times per semester. Especially, airfares are not cheap anymore.
