Web Design - Degrees or Certifications/Diplomas

I am looking to pursue a career in marketing with a focus on graphic design and web design.

When looking for online schools, I found some offer either degrees or certificate programs / diploma programs.

Anyone in this feild of expertise have any advice for me? Can I save time / money by going through certificate programs? Does it not look as good on a resume or is it not a big deal?

 

You can consider going for a graphic arts degree. You can either go for a 2 year associates degree or a 4 years bachelors degree. Dont go for certificate programs since they will only help you get a job and help your acquire specific skills. A degree will help you learn more than designing. You'll also learn other aspects such as management, marketing etc which will help you move up the ladder. Now as far as which college to consider is concerned, I would recommend that you search on Google and zero down on a few colleges. Make sure that the colleges you choose are accredited. Inquire with the colleges and schedule a visit to the campus. Speak to their admissions consultant and also read through their course description. Once you have visited the campus and spoken to the staff then consider getting an advice from others online through forums.

This is a lengthy route but will help you make an informed decision.

They'll award you an online certificate base on what ? Prior credits ? Do they offer courses or any kind of training? Sounds highly shallow if you ask me. If you have the possibility, try finding such a program on your campus.
