I have my degree in Computer Science but I would like to take some courses to "brush up" on a few things like networking, security, web design or anything computer related. Does anyone know of any colleges that offer short certificate or diploma courses? I can't afford much since this is out of pocket but I am starting a computer business and would like to gain a little more knowledge on some subjects....and having them to show to cutomers is nice also
I know the the University of Washington offers a certificate for free, I can't recall the topic, but it is computer/IT related. You just hve to buy the texts. There are a lot of books, but I looked into it and if you go on amazon you can get all the reading material required for under $50. Others on the board will be able to give you a longer list of options (and tell you what the UW program is, specifically)
Thank you, I'm very grateful for the help. It's just so hard to know what websites/colleges to trust these days. I know I'm not looking for a actual college credit but I want a decent "certificate" and you guys are always helpful. I did read somewhere that I believe it was Webber? Or California College that offered certificates (mind you not college credit certificates) for 50 dollars? I may of just dreamed that though
yeah, I 2nd this you can download a free version of oracle and a free version of ms sql server from their respective sites, you should download them and start practicing with sql since you already have a CS degree it shouldn't be too difficult for you to pick this stuff up then you can take the oracle or the ms sql server certification the network+ and A+ exams should be pretty simple for you too, Everything you need to study is on the web, so if you're disciplined and spend the next 30 days searching the web and studying I'm sure you could pass. you should also look for ms excel, I got a complete legit version of MS office 2003 off craigslist for $50 I plan on taking my ms excel certification in the next couple of months and what do you mean by "web design"? photshop, flash, adobe illustrator, css and html ? or php, mysql, python, xml and ajax ? either way, a certificate is nice, but having a couple of websites to show is better even if its just something personal like tracking your favorite sports teams
thanks Everyone. I really am just looking for online now though although I do intend to get my a+ certification this summer.
Skip the CompTIA A+ certification. Honestly, my opinion...it is useless. Start with Network+, Linux+, Security+, CCNA, CCNP, CISSP.
