Have any of the IT/Techie minded individuals who frequent this forum checked out the new offerings from Touro University International? A BS and MS in IT and a BSCS.
I was hoping someone who frequents this board would comment to the utility of the curriculums as they are posted at http://www.tourou.edu.

    Regards,

I guess no one's interested in giving their opinions about Touro's curriculum.

    Thanks anyway,

I just sent in my application to TUI's MBA (concentration in IT Management) program. I don't know how well it fits into the typical technology management field, but I intend to use it to help give me some leverage into an upcoming career change into technical/marketing writing. I will keep the board posted on how it all goes.

    Tracy,
In two semesters (including this one), I'll be finished with the same degree. If I can be of any assistance to you, please do not hesitate to email me: [email protected].

    I'm sure you'll love it!

    Tracy,

For similar reasons I am completing my TUI MBA with the same IT emphasis. I'll finish (Lord willing!) the MBA/IT this session, and like Steven will be glad to try and answer any questions.

The pace is tough but fair, and the program moves very fast.

    You'll do fine!

    IHG,

    Steven and Billy,

Thanks for the advice and offers of assitance. I feel confident that the TUI MBA will meet my needs in that it will give me some leverage for an upcoming career change. This is, retirement from the Army in about 5 years.

In addition to using the MBA as a tool for change, I will unashamedly sellout to the retired-military-good-old-boy job hunters network. Perhaps, being in (or at least having been in) the military, you know the type. They can be found hanging out at the food court in the PX on the weekends, telling war stories (even if nobody is listenting) and drinking coffee. Ahhh, I can already see myself there, and the coffee ain't bad.

I too am about to graduate from Touro with my MBA-ITM. If you have any questions e-mail me at [email protected].

I'm on active duty, stationed in Alaska with a very busy schedule. You need to be able to dedicate about 5 hours per class per week for research and writing. It can be demanding because of the research involved, but not anything overly difficult. There are no tests, just a whole lot of writing. Did I mention, there's writing? You get the point.
They just recently changed the format: now there's five modules per term. They build upon each other and each consists of a case study, a sesson long project paper, and participation in a threaded discussion. If you can't participate, you can do an alternate assignment: an enhanced case study (another paper). One thing's for sure: you will write, write, write!!

    Good luck,
    Gary Brown

Thanks, Gary. Actually, I was looking for a program that is writing intensive. My career goals are to go into technical/marketing writing after retirment from the Army in 2007. Touro's program should help me start a decent portfolio.

I read in another post that you are looking at retirement from the military in 2009. It is good to meet other military members and former members on this board, especially if they are attending Touro for their postgraduate education. It will allow us to network.

I got an e-mail from Touro the other day, saying that I have been accepted into the program. I've got your e-mail address and I will be in touch with you, Steven, and Billy.

Thanks again, and good luck to you as well.

There are not a lot of BSCS programs by DL so I consider this unique. Most DL IT programs are CIS, IS, or something similar.

The Troy State University BS CS is interesting. It is a State University which some prefer over a private university like Touro and Excelsior. It is 39 sh in the major. They accept Clep and Dantes tests for credit and have a list posted on their web site. The only negitive I can see is there is a requirement that "students must earn a minimum of 50 percent of all degree program hours on a senior college level in order to graduate from Troy State University with a bachelor's degree". Obviously Community College credits would not qualify and I am not sure Clep/Dantes would. The cost is $130 per sh for DL coarses.
